Hi Guys, I'm a big fan of Beamng Drive and love to play the game. Unfortunately I only own a Mac for work and an iPhone and maybe an Xbox somewhere, but I don't really have a gaming setup except when I visit my brother who has a gaming PC. Today I noticed that Apple is trying to bring a lot of games to Apple devices, for example Resident Evil and so on. Maybe it would be possible to bring Beamng to a Mac or the latest iPhone 15 Pro thanks to Apple's "Game Porting Toolkit"? What do you think?
short answer the game would probably drain your battery life so much it's not worth it. like yes, the battery life on an iphone is already horseshit. Doesn't need to get any worse also the game would need to be recompiled for apple silicon macs, or the iphone (basically any device with an ARM architecture is also affected, not just apple products) (which beam probably doesnt even run on the thing in the first place)
Mac: maybe but it’d take a long time + beam devs are really busy iPhone: 2 second battery life + 1 fps on lowest + not having the minimum 60 buttons + even more difficult than mac soo I don’t think we’d see a port for those soon sadly.

Well, I've seen setups where the iPhone 15 Pro is connected to an Xbox controller via Bluetooth, hooked up to a projector and a few more things thanks to a USB-C adapter and the battery is charging via a MagSafe. The game running was Call of Duty or some sort of Resident Evil.
If someone were to dedicate their time to making a proper port... it would work. Stuff has gotten so powerful these days that Beam would run on a fair bit of lighter end hardware now. Someone on redit kinda proved out the idea of it running on Mac, unoptimized and through the dev kit... but it still ran and halfway decently at that. But we aren't quite at a point in time where someone can port something to something else with just the snap of their fingers... maybe someday... but not yet. Until then, this shall suffice...
The toolkit is only for evaluating performance, also it needs Rosetta 2 for x86 to ARM translation. If the results are that the game performs okay running via the toolkit, the devs would still be required to make it an actual ARM port which takes a lot of effort, especially for games like Beam with a custom engine.
No, since they use a custom engine. Their whole toolchain would need to be adapted to produce a Mac executable. Not considering the changes needed to run the game on Metal. Also, most x86 Macs lack the horsepower to run BeamNG.
