I can explain the differences easily. 1. RoR is free, Beam is not 2. RoR is better at simulating heavy vehicles (Trucks, cranes ETC.), while Beam has an easier time with Lighter vehicles (cars). There are obviously workarounds for each game, but yeah. Also a lot of the talent that works in Beam use to mod RoR.
RoR is free and supports multiplayer. BeamNG is superior (in some fields, VASTLY superior) at everything else.
I don't think comparing them is really fair due to how old RoR is compared to BeamNG.drive. RoR is good, because a ton of content has been made for it (not always perfect though), it's free and it has multiplayer. BeamNG is obviously better, due to it being more recent, with a better simulation. It is very ressource-consuming though, a decent PC is required to play it comfortably. But it also has mods. I would say RoR was great back at the time, and even if BeamNG is better, I still like it. But BeamNG obviously brought a ton of improvements over RoR.
"Rigs of Rods". Not "Rigs Of Rods", that doesn't make logical sense. Of shouldn't be capitalized in a title.
RoR was pretty good, especially for a free game but multiplayer wasn't the best and inter-vehicle collisions were awful compared to BeamNG. The one thing I liked about RoR was the possibility to get out of your car and walk around, perhaps to another car and get in it and drive off.
well ror does have multiplayer and i am able to do this even though i'm not supposed to. mutiplayer breathes new life into a game for me
The multiplayer in RoR is cool, but you don't have inter-vehicle collisions in MP (due to the technical complexity required to do them decently). RoR gets a pass on this because it's a free game developed by a volunteer team, but I think the BeamNG devs would rather have a high-quality multiplayer mode than something that is lower fidelity.
Well, for me, it has to go to BeamNG even though I voted for Rigs Of Rods. Rigs Of Rods was an amazing game for it's time. Came out in 2006 and the decent mods started coming in around 2011. I played it since the age of 10 years old so it's certainly the game that means the most to me. As for comparing them, it's a bit unfair but lets just take a look.... Rigs Of Rods 0.38 Game Cost - £0.00 BeamNG.Drive Game Cost - £13.49 when I got it So, so far Rigs Of Rods wins because it was free! However.... Rigs Of Rods had 1 major issue and that was russian mods. The problem with those was you had to pay for them and I have heard of many rumours that they were making people pay for the mods, then not sending them or sending broken links. On BeamNG.Drive, this isn't a problem as far as I know. MODS Rigs Of Rods 0.38 For it's time, the mods for ROR 0.38 were incredible. You had Mitchieboys CLK, Gabesters Accord as well as the original Burnside and the Bandit! As for Maps, they were really good too and even some have been ported to BeamNG because they were way ahead of their time! BeamNG.Drive The Mods on Beam are probably the best mods out there for any game. The realism is unbelievable. As much as I liked ROR Mods, these ones are ten times better but that's because they are much newer. Now, moving onto damage... Rigs Of Rods had good damage for most of it's vehicles that people made. All of Gabesters cars were amazing when it came to crashing them, even some of the non russian mods were incredible! BeamNG on the other hand has really good damage. The ingame cars aren't glitchy like the ones on ROR that sometimes occoured. The only thing that makes Rigs Of Rods the one I love the most is because it was the first ever game I played with good damage. Before I played ROR, the best game with damage I had ever played was Forza 4! I really miss good old Forza 4, why does the new forzas have to be ruined, you could run great derbies and Banger racing with the Limited damage but now it's gone. Why Another thing is someone made a UK Banger mod for ROR which had at least 30 - 35 cars and 5 tracks! Those being Hednesford, Coventry, Yarmouth, Ipswich, Sheffield and another track which was pretty much the same as the Ipswich track. BeamNG does have banger mods, there is quite a few actually but they aren't really banger racing mods. We have the Yarmouth track and a few cars that are fitted with bonnet bolts, welded doors and stripped out interiors with cut wings but that's it sadly. They do bend more realistically than the Rigs Of Rods ones though! Another thing is ROR was very easy to modify cars as well as skin them, it's such a shame that it's not as easy on Beam.
I'd say it's actually easier. On Rigs of Rods you'd have to actually restart the game each time to see your NB changes. In BeamNG you just reload the vehicle. Skinning is as easy. We have two wiki pages about it. One explains stuff, the other shows you how to.
Ok, so it's not just me that thinks this... In RoR I could practically build a car in an hour or two... from scratch... Heck, I did several times just the other day for Lifters light truck challenge! In Beam I have to struggle to even wrap my head around what I am doing with these multiple files and what not... Using blender and the JBeam editor (I only use it as a visualizer and to connect 2 JBeams together) definitely helps... but my word is it difficult. On RoR you don't have to either... you just go to the top left menu, drop down the simulation tab, and reload your vehicle.
BeamNG. Even the title says it. BeamNG = beam next generation Ror is simply the predacessor that is outdated and unsupported.
Wait, wait... Since when does BeamNG stand for "Beam next generation" ? Did I miss something ? I don't remember it having a special meaning, nor did I see it written before. Also I wouldn't go as far as saying RoR is unsupported. Sure, it's outdated, and a lot of content creator migrated to BeamNG, but it still had a somewhat active community last time I checked.
