So later today when I get home my 4K TV should have arrived. Just kinda concerned on how well beam will play on it lol. Hoping my current hardware can do it. My nvidia 780 sits on a decent over clock and stays cool. Anyone else got experience with Beamng and 4k? I bought a off brand that has a good screen just poor audio on tiger direct. 49in Sceptre 60hz 4k. Paid 499 for it next day it shot up to 599 now it's 549 with a 100$ rebate they can't make up their minds lol. I'll report in on the quality of the TV later. Might do like an unbox video. Hopefully I might manage 30fps on grid lol.

A single 780 is not enough for 4K gaming, at least not if you want smooth 60 fps. Get another 780 and SLI.

There isn't any single gpu card that can do 4K gaming properly really.

    I can't get a solid 60fps on ECA/gridmap in native 4k no AA with a 970 and a 5930K.

I need to put lighting on lowest to run at a solid 60 on gridmap.

I can't reach 60fps most of the time on ECA with lighting at lowest and no AA

I think you can get 30fps but i'm not sure

    Okay.
I get 40-50 fps on gridmap at max settings no aa
and 20-30 on ECA at the same settings

Well dang I guess I'll get another 780 and do Sli. Anything is an upgrade from 1360x768

With sli 980's in 4k I get anywhere between 25 and 60fps on east coast with one vehicle on max settings and with low settings you can +15Fps to the lower end but looks a bit naff.

Keep in mind, 1080p is a perfect scale to 4k, so there wouldn't be any blurring from misaligned pixel grids (unless your TV overscans and thus isn't true 4k).

Many 4k TVs also have above average upscalers to make up for the total lack of native content. After all, you can only get so far with gimmickry and snake oil. Computer monitors are another story entirely as computers are pretty much the only medium to offer complete native content.

TLDR Try running at 1080p, it might look better than you expect without sacrificing all the frames.

That's what I was planning on doing was 1080p upscale to 4k

To an extent. Talking specifically about BeamNG you're correct, because Torque seems to be quite an intensive engine for what it is, and I have drops even playing at 1080p.

However, I can play tons of games perfectly fine at 4K on a single GTX780. I can run RaceRoom Experience, DiRT 3, and anything on the Source engine at 60FPS at 3840x2160, nevermind "it's just playable" trundling along at 30FPS. If I settle for 30FPS, I can even run games like Watch Dogs at 4K.

Considering the amount of grunt that my 780 still has, and the surprising amount of games that it can handle, I have absolutely no doubts that a card such as the GTX980 can run a game at 4K with playable performance on its own.

    Torque3D has a large FPS loss at larger resolutions and I Have no clue why. 640x480 = 60fps. 800x600= 30fps, 1366x768 = 15fps, etc. FPS goes down fast :c

What GPU is that on? That's pretty bad performance, half the FPS for only a 64% pixel difference between 640x480 and 800x600.

T3D's LOD is based on how many pixels the object takes up on screen I think. I found that dropping mesh quality very low does not degrade the visual quality very much, but significantly improves performance at 4K.

edit: comparison of mesh quality, 4k low mesh quality left, 1080p high mesh quality right

Oh my god, so flawless, so much detail ... Just laggy on my 780 which makes me cry a little. Small Island is playable and so is grid maps lol. East Coast is a little bit too hungry.

    Re: BeamNG & 4k

I guess when a 780 goes on Craigslist I'll buy it. Will need a new power supply that can handle two cards. My 700 could but doesn't have enough power cables. Other than that it looks amazing in Beamng the sunbursts interior is just drop dead gorgeous
