Who else agrees? I think they are just not realistic at all. They have terrible texture, often they don't deform at all, and they are just all around unrealistic to whatever car they are based on. I have just one automation mod at the moment, and its something kind of hard to mess up, a top fuel dragster. I think automation mods are kind of useless if you don't have automation.
Obviously you don't get a handcrafted dev quality vehicle from Automation exports, but for the owners of Automation it does allow you to explore and experiment with your own creations in a meaningful way. This is actually a really cool system in my opinion, and it's not like it floods the repo down with Automation mods since they are relegated to their own sections.
I actually download all my mods through the beamng.drive website, so it's all mixed in, which bothers me
Are you sure you are using the official BeamNG mod section? If you are using the mods section of this site you should only see Automation mods under the Automation section, other mod sites may not organize their content so cleanly.
What I would find more useful than this critizism: are there any automation cars that are useful? Like with see-through windows, working steering wheel and gauges and realistic handling so you could actually drive them with fun?
Here's one (I'm not sure if it has realistic handling or a working steering wheel because its likely almost impossible to make those in automation), but what do you mean by useful? https://www.beamng.com/resources/trajano-ouroboros-rd03.23107/ --- Post updated --- I agree
automation exports were never intended to take the place of "mods" for BeamNG. rather, they were made to enhance the gameplay of automation. so of course they're not good quality by beamng mod standards.
I also accept that automation is lacking in comparison to beamng vanilla vehicles/mods vehicles, automation has a limited body and parts(called a fixture), so it's hard to expect the quality of a vanilla vehicle/mods However, automation is easier to make your own car than beamng modding. That is, as mentioned above, it is fun to directly set and make an engine/suspension/body, maybe many people who create automation mods because of this point Therefore, although the automation mods is inferior to the beamng mods, it can be seen as a mods with different characteristics
Yep, Automation said in the automation & BeamNG collab trailer that they wont crash as good as beamng cars. They are if you want to drive or crash your creation in BeamNG
yeah some automation mods have working interiors, tons of people have done its just not a lot of them get posted to the repo
Automation cars have been getting better throughout the years. I personally used to dislike automation cars up until late 2022. Took another browse through the catalog and was shocked to find vehicles created with functioning interiors, custom sounds and lots of polished detail that takes lots of time and passion to make. Also, performance wise-the automation cars were getting less and less demanding on system performance unlike your typical BeamNG vehicle. So yes, automation cars are neat hobbyist passion mod projects I'll happily try out in my playthroughs and even use as traffic because they're getting just as good as your typical BeamNG vehicle. Right now the piece-of-cake for automation cars are vehicles made from 1900 to 1950. Lots of detailed unique vehicles that you don't get much of when it comes to your average BeamNG vehicle mod.. There are open-cab 1910's automobiles with detailed interiors, custom sounds, exhaust smoke..etc on the automation repository. Woah, that's an automation car? I would have never expected that. I use this in traffic and drive it occasionally. Awesome mod.
I've made quite a few Automation/Beamng cars and here is what I think: I like Automation cars because you can make any car you want Want a V12 minivan? Sure go right ahead Want a classic muscle car that handles like a cruise ship? Knock yourself out Yes, the deformation sucks, but I find it rewarding to build a sporty little inline 5 powered Japanese roadster thing, and that is what its about
