Audio crackling, more sound sources makes it worse

    Hello friends.

First of all, I've read many older complaints about this (here, steam, reddit). This issue does not happen with a USB headset, so I understand that the game isn't the problem... if it's not happening with all audio output, then it makes sense that the audio output with the issue is the culprit.

What doesn't make sense is that I've never had this problem before or after, with anything but this great game.

I would like to ask for some help, anything about trying to figure out why... again, I understand that the game is fine, but maybe we can work out what specifically BeamNG is doing to "cause" this? (it's like there is something wrong somewhere and whatever BeamNG does internally affects it and makes the problem audible/perceptible when nothing else does).

I've noticed that the crackling increases with the number of sounds. I can hear a few isolated "pops" on the main menu, after loading any map there are only a few quiet ones, then as I start driving, the crackling goes crazy. Other vehicles nearby, the wind speed sound, tires, engine, as all of these start getting louder and playing on top of each other it gets really bad. Does not seem to be affected by FPS.

Windows 10 is fully updated, BIOS updated, drivers and Steam files checked, everything is seemingly fine.
The USB headset has a great mic and not too good audio, so that's for voice calls only. Sound cards are extremely expensive here so that's out of reach (a couple options only, few vendors, more expensive than a brand new motherboard and not a smart buy when there is no audio issue with anything else).

The crackling/popping makes the game bad enough that I don't want to play it, too distracting and annoying. I bought this game in 2019 and my PC couldn't run it back then, now this sound issue, I'm just sad.

I've got the same problem except when I try using a USB to audio jack adapter that I have I still get crackling. Just so you know: safemode, verifying files, updating all drivers, changing the audio frequency and even reinstalling the whole game completely, hasn't helped. Paired to that I've also lost the orange outline of the buttons on the main menu, so just to be sure we've got the same issue, does this also happen to you?

I opened a support ticket a while ago and after some emails they've stopped answering. I guess they can't find the solution either.

    These are my pc's specs:
    -I3 10105F
    -Gigabyte GTX 1660 Super OC
    -Kingston KF320016D4/16GX (16GB 3200Mhz DDR4)
    -Gigabyte H410M H V3
    -Crucial CT480BX500SSD (480GB SATA)
    -Seagate ST2000DM008-2UB102 (2000GB SATA)

If any of those parts matches with one of yours please let me know.

Hello, just like you I've tried everything I could, even now I downloaded the game to check what you said about the outline (yeah it glitches out to me too) and played more than 1 hour, such a good game, but the audio cracks and pops are too irritating.

It seems to be a very hardware specific bug, I've never had issues with other games before or since, it looks like I'll only be able to enjoy BeamNG when I'm able to afford a new new computer. I'm currently using a Ryzen 5600G + RTX 3070 + 2x8GB@3600MHz. Before this I was using a 2700X + GTX 1060 6GB, but the motherboard is the same (MSI X470 Gaming Pro).

I do own the same Seagate 2TB HDD, but it is recent and even if it wasn't I don't think it would affect the game.

Hopefully you can find something, anything, but I've given up. Good luck!

Thanks for answering quickly. The BeamNG support team has answered me after I sent another email, they've asked me to send an updated log. I hope that they end up finding a solution because playing like this is really annoying. If I solve the issue I'll tell you right away.
