I edited some vehicle property files for the sunburst (engine power, tire friction) and now when I change to the sunburst in game the car doesn't load, only a floating license plate does. There is no engine noise and the car won't move. Why is that happening? Was the ability to edit these files removed?

you probably have a syntax error, or a character or digit in the wrong place....that will cause the car not to load properly, in the way you explained it especially. verify your game cache and try again. Make sure all commas and brackets arent moved or altered, this is what causes loading errors....At least thats my sugestion for you to try.

The good ole' days of beam tweaking simplicity are over I think. The latest update has changed a lot of filepath and caching routines for both vehicles and maps.
Stock map files have stuff located all over the place as does vehicle beam and node files. The devs have mentioned their dis-pleasure with people tinkering with
certain game files so perhaps all this is geared at slowing that activity down?...dunno.

Yeah, I was trying to make the D-series's Small Flatbed Trailer a separate vehicle earlier today and had some interesting things. So, I had to re-zip the file (deleting the old zip (back it up)) every time I changed something. BeamNG just refused to load the trailer without that step.

Haven't had much time lately to see what's going on but I think the main vehicle files I used to play with are located in a different folder in documents or a cache file. These are what
get and keep the updated beam files and are not accessed as the current vehicle gets loaded on Beam re-start. Same thing with mod map .mis files. I could be all fucked up on this
    though.

You're mostly right on this. The only thing is that the cached files (which actually just contain all your .dae files) don't update themselves, which is why they sometimes need to be deleted when you update mods. They don't need to be deleted if just the .jbeam files change.

That sucks imo. Most people who were changing things were simply tweaking things such as power and transmission settings. I.e. Id rather have the H-series with a manual transmission. Is it accurate? No. Is it more fun to drive? For me, yes. I dont see any harm in doing things such as that
