It's on the repo - https://www.beamng.com/resources/antarctica-98304-x-98304-km-in-size.25724/ So, i've been working on something big for the past few weeks, and it's something nobody asked for, and nobody cared about, that is an entire map of Antarctica ported to BeamNG with the size of 9663.7 KM Square / 3731.1 Miles Square. How did it all started? I'll tell a little backstory before this thread appeared. Back in very early February, i tried to make a big map that's mostly snowy, the first map i tried to make is a map of Greenland. but it got some issues, and i had to scrap it, a bit later, i decided to make an entire map of Antarctica, that's so big, it will empty an entire fuel tank with capacity of 35 litre (or even less), and i also knew that the map will be easy to make, no matter the size of the map, the reason why i was thinking like that, is that because most of the map is just a snowy desert, it will contain not really many stuff on the map, and so because of that, it might take about few weeks to finish the basics of the map. With that in mind, on Feb 10, i started working on the map, the first picture of it was this. (antarctica? More like orangetica) Then the next thing i did, is added some snow texture (and those textures were made by me, nothing was stolen), and then i added dirt, for few occupied places. Then i added Small Island assets into it, and it looked just fine with them. It was going very well, and i featured them in few of my videos on my YouTube channel (BeamNG Boy), and only few people asked for the map, which back then i would ignore (just like any other YouTuber does, ain't i'm right?). Only few days later, i started thinking of making a thread about the map i'm currently making, to get some interest in it. And so this is how i ended up making this thread over 10 days later after i first created it. First of all, i need to answer potential questions about the map, so you will know the answer to it before you will ask it. Question 1: How did you managed to get it this big? Answer: Simple, i made the map in highest resolution BeamNG allows (8192x8192) and then in the game, i'll increase the Square size setting up to 12, so basically, 8192 x 12 = 98,304, which basically means the size of the map after that setting is equals to 98304x98304, or more simply, 9663.7 KM Square / 3731.1 Miles Square. Question 2: If it's big, will it explode my PC? Answer: That's not really true (unless you have a complete potato PC), on my PC with these specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6 Core 3.20 GHz RAM: 16 GB with the speed of 2667 MHz GPU: AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB The map will run absolutely fine at around 80+ FPS, but depending on your hardware and the car you selected, the FPS counter will show a different result. Question 3: What's the whole point of making a map? Answer: Initially it started as my internal map to test cars on lowest temperatures, but then i quickly decided to make the map for the publicity. The map can be used to have fun in BeamMP, since the terrain is just a very slippery snow. It can be used for again, testing cars on lowest temperatures. And for long trips, either with friends, or completely in solo. Question 4: Will it be released? If so, when exactly? Answer: I can't be completely sure if the map will be ever finished or not, most of my attempts went straight into the bin. But if i'll have chances that the map will definitely be released at some point, then the question of "When" will end up with a simple answer that you expect from any BeamNG modder, which is of course "when finished". EDIT: It's already out on the repo, check the link above. Question 5: Is the map will be 1:1 copy of Antarctica? Answer: Nope, the size of the map is not close to the size in Real Life, and it will be entirely fictional compare to the real one. More simply, it will not be a 1:1 copy of it, it's hard to do that with current technology. Now since you want to be more interested in what i have done to the map, here's the pictures of the map, with some commentary to some of them. Buildings you see with opened door (or lack of it) are completely enterable, i decided to modify some Small Island assets to make them enterable, because BeamNG devs can't do it for player's curiosity. Insides of the buildings are currently raw (especially a 2 floor building, it's very raw at the moment) I want to credit few people who were a part of testing in BeamMP, as well as having fun on the map too. @Born 2 Drive (SourDisc on YouTube), @Kirvis1393 , Mat#1165 (Discord). Please note that any negative messages that are related towards the hate of the map before map goes to the public will be ignored. Please understand that you can't criticise the map by just looking at it. And also note that i won't take any random people from this thread to test the map before the release, i can give the map only to those people i can really trust. Begging will also not help for you to get the map, and possibly leaking it too. Any sort of suggestions, and tips are open to ask here on this thread.
Saw this featured in a video, and was just waiting for the thread. Excited to bomb through antarctica with a Jato Pigeon! Sorry in advance to the penguins that I may accidentally hit.
Just to proof that the map is well optimized in some way, i decided to run the map on my 2nd pc, that's not supported by BeamNG requirements. It's a 4 GB, Celeron J3355 2 Core 2 GHz, and Intel graphics. Surprise, i did managed to play the map comfortably enough (for me at least) The only screenshot where i decided to run at high screen resolution of that PC, it didn't gave good results in FPS So technically, running this map on that PC, is like running Small Grid Pure map.
well, the map itself is not really close to real one, if it was, then it would crash the game because it's just too big to process.
HECK YEAH! Just to wait until later today now... Can't wait to try it out (and spend a couple days making antarctica configs of every car)!
