Again, title too short to post the entire question. Anyway, I absolutely despise the T3D terrain editor when it comes to roads, and I am desperately looking for options other than the editor for doing my roads. And I know of a few. Problem is, well, I have already started editing the terrain with the T3D tools. My question is will I be able to have done work in this terrain, export the edited heightmap, work with it in another program, re-export the heightmap, and have it slip in error free? Or am I going to need to start a new map and do everything first? I am braced for the worst at this point, but before I jump to conclusions, can someone shed some light on this?
Nah no problems there. It depends a little on what programs you have but it still shouldn't be an issue. Ideally you have L3DT; the T3D terrain export is a bit ... uncertain. There seems to be a bit of data loss (one export should be fine though). Otherwise you can use T3D but you should probably limit the back and forth because I think it's a bit like saving a .jpg and then opening, editing and saving again. So: Extract the heightmap from T3D with either: Export from T3D Extract using the L3DT import Open the heightmap in blender and follow this http://www.beamng.com/threads/tutorial-adding-heightmap-roads-using-blender.16356/ You can also edit it using L3DT, Gimp (2.9 experimental, 2.8 doesn't support 16bit images), World Machine or Photoshop. Hope this helps, good luck
I currently have L3DT(Free edition,) And Blender. I cant seem to import the .ter files into L3DT for some weird reason, so export and import through T3D it is. And since I read somewhere you can use blender to work on a terrain, and export in the format for a heightmap. But if you know of any other programs that might make the road work a bit easier, Im up to finding out about those.
Also, Why does the terrain editor always screw up the terrain when I use the smoothing tools? Like, even after adjusting settings like the softness curve(To even the pressure being put on the outside,) and my pressure on the brush, it still doesnt really make anything drivable. I assume this is just how the smoothing tools work, where when you drag it its trying to update everything to the last bump it went over, but again, I dont know.
Ok so I exported, and I have a ton of layermaps alongside a mirrored heightmap. Problem?(The layermaps seem normal, the heightmap doesnt though...)
