I was thinking, (Oh, boy...) is it possible to program AI to obey common traffic laws like: - Stop at stop signs / red lights - Pull over when cop with lights flashing is heading towards them - Attempt to not bump into any other car - Use turning signals - Stop for buses (IDK if I spelt that right) - etc. Any BeamNG.Drive player to notice this who is good at making mods, consider this idea! But if this forum inspired you to make this mod, please don't say that it was your idea from the start, but you don't have to say that you were inspired by me.
BeamNG recently partnered up with Audi, so that they could test their autonomous vehicle tech in beamng. (Or something along those lines) This might mean that we could see AI improvements in the future.
Putting AI stuff aside (which is totally possible to create) this won't be happening soon with the game in its current state. While the game can now support a huge number of vehicles (limit was just upped to 100 last update) no CPU is able to do anywhere near that So until there is some sort of "sleep" mode on AI vehicles so their physics don't activate until they are within a certain distance of the player then there isnt really any way of creating proper AI traffic with more than ~10 cars active at once.
I spawned a base grand Marshall put it on ai random in lane. I pulled in front of it and hit the breaks because I wanted it to hit me. It stopped and when I moved forward it moved forward. I reset the car and it just hit me. I haven't been able to replicate it
Most modders don't bother with custom AI modes. AI is notoriously tricky to get right, and even more so with complex articulated vehicles such as those in BeamNG. However, two new buttons recently showed up in the editor: the AI Path Tool and the Navigation Mesh Tool. The former seems to be designed so the user can mark lanes for vehicles, and the latter seems to be able to show where each object is positioned in the level, so more complicated lane following and vehicle/obstacle avoidance may be soon forthcoming.
I very highly doubt that. The article that contained that information made it clear that Audi was only using it to test their self driving car tech, not giving permission to the beamng team to use their vehicles in game. That's a whole different story. Nonetheless, it is exciting.
But Aud has to give something in exchange for testing their BeamNG Here I am thinking of eg. they agree to have one or two audi ingams, that is, an official audi vehicle that could be in it. --- Post updated --- *Audi
Maybe they will just give Beamng the rights to the Audi name and designs and let Beamng put as many Audis as they want and/or feel necessary.
