Cliff-faced as usual, I see. Anyway I wanted to make a quick thread for something I've been working on. It's nothing amazing, won't be, but I've never taken on a project of this scale. The car is mostly visual but I do intend to do some jbeam work. Currently sits a stockish but stretched 200bx jbeam to accommodate the longer wheelbase. The model is a mix of 200bx/Driver SF/barstow and uses BeamNG's v8_2 sounds. (v8_cross_exhaust sounds available under engine option, courtesy of @ryanisstigg) Some of the model is a bit haggard, but the goal will never be true emulation. (I'm not nearly that good!) In the end I consider it practice. Weird thing about the Driver SF model, it has a T top exterior model but a normal interior.. Maybe I will work on this at a later date! some (mostly unoptimized) configurations are included, but do not include json files so they will only be displayed if you have custom configs enabled! Reminder this is a WIP! I am open to feedback, ideas, suggestions, but keep in mind as this is a major work in progress a lot is already intended to change. Please refrain from rude comments about the quality of the mod as I only started earlier this week, with little time. Again, feedback is OK but that isn't an invitation for rude comments!!! /slightly dated photos Credits: Driver SF - Exterior/Interior models BeamNG - Frame models, engine models, Jbeams, ect @ryanisstigg - Providing some fixes & sound tuning @TwoTwoNine - Providing some model/texture fixes please let me know if you have any problems and i will do my best to resolve them ☆ω☆" Spoiler: update 5/13/2023 file stats fbodya.zip File size:140.6 MB Views:273 Update notes: Visual changes (taillights, chassis, other things) Little bit of jbeam (front end only really) Uv fixes Transmission fixes, v8_cross_exhaust option provided by @ryanisstigg Spoiler: update 5/16/2023 file stats fbodya.zip File size:144 MB Views:319 Update notes: Many materials and textures and model and other updates (working guages, steering wheel fixed) from @TwoTwoNine (tyvm you underestimate my appreciation, this is basically a ttn mod now) Smaller things also like new skin and separate sideskirt jbeam, some of my own model fixes as well. that's about it edit: added trans fix and starter fix from @ryanisstigg edit 2: fixed some shading bugs Spoiler: update 5/20/2023 file stats fbodya.zip File size:164 MB Views:347 Adjusted jbeam, added info.json and some config touch ups. Not a ton but makes the car crash much better (still very imperfect) Feel free to check out the update by @videopants2019 ! This adds realistic weight to the car but I have not tested it myself, and the suspension needs some tuning. Found Here File on this post features latest "stable" version, however. I will add the contributions to the main mod soon as I have the time, I'm currently a few days from graduating and i'm putting my free time into spending time with friends and the spica, but i will be updating this mod soon-ish!
I can give you references and performance figures for this, I own an '82 Firebird IRL and I'd love to see this get improved!
Tyvm! as of now i have all the reference i need model-wise (which isn't intended to be super accurate anyway). Performance is not on priority, but if i need to i will contact you when i get there! "
Are you planning on adding all the different trims and stuff? (Sport Coupe, Berlinetta, RS, Z28 and IROC)
there are really no plans as of now, just doing things as i go. it's mostly just whatever i think is fun.
Alright, also I hope you don't mind but I replaced the engine sound with some more up to date ones, I could post the new file here if you want me to
I like Beam's v8_2 sounds though they might not be the most accurate. feel free to make additions and post as you wish. !
I do have a couple of critiques. The car is too tight. It handles a bit too good for a 3rd gen. This owes to the fact that the base is the 200bx. My suggestion is to loosen up the shocks and springs, make it a bit more boat like in turns. Also the independent rear end needs to go. I would suggest swapping in the barstows rear suspension. Honestly I was planning on trying a 3rd gen myself, I was going to start with the Barstow. These are suggestions and light criticism so take them with a grain of salt. Keep it up. It is a great start.
Thank you. I think it handles really fun but it definitely doesn't capture the boat feeling. Problem with starting with the barstow is that the third gen is a unibody car and not a body on frame. barstow rear end may be a good idea, though. edit: barstow is not body on frame, sorry, but the construction is very different.
here's the file with only a tiny bit of engine tuning, I didn't want to tamper too much since it's not even mine lol Also the Barstow has rear leaf springs, and the third gen F body has coils in the back, so the Moonhawk's rear axle might be best to use
the barstow does have an option to add springs in the rear, but i'll check it out later down the line (much later, likely, priority right now is deformation>customisation/visuals>handling. mostly because i'm not going after the driving sim feel for a third gen, so as long as it handles fun i think it's okay. but i would like to emulate it a little bit, simcade style i guess.. i will consider adding these sounds as an option, if that's okay. i like beamng's v8_2 but i think v8_cross_exhaust is more realistic
I used it due to it having a similar enough note to a real small block, plus I think it just sounds cooler than the normal V8 noises Edit: it also has two fuel doors, should only have one on the driver's side lol
Figured while I'm at it, I could fix the automatic transmission not wanting to shift up, it now shifts at around 5600 rpm at full load instead of 6800 or something like that
