Amazing update on the 4Runner mod as always, and the recent changes like applying halogen lights functionality where applicable and Limited bits and pieces make it closer to its real-world counterpart. I'd imagine the latter was in the making for a long time since 2022, and all that perseverance has finally paid off. As it stands, it only needs the TRD Off-Road (formerly known as Trail) parts for the facelifted fifth generation to be considered feature-complete, but I'm sure that will come in a future update.

That being said of course, I did notice a few minor issues stemming from the latest update. I believe most, if not all, of them can be resolved, so I'll start with the most severe and work my way down to the least problematic:
    • For some reason, the headlights on the Limited, Nightshade, and TRD Sport trim levels are not playing nice with the game, at least initially when spawning it for the first time, or reloading/resetting it in a session when the default ignition state is set to On. As a result, the daytime running lights, brake lights, gauge cluster, and infotainment screen are "turned off" while the engine is running, and it occurs on both Arcade and Realistic shifting modes. Doing any of the following fixes this problem: turning off the vehicle and then starting it again, switching shifting modes, moving the vehicle forward or backward and then stopping, turning on the headlights, using the turn signals, enabling the fog lights, and disengaging and reengaging the parking brake. You can see this in the following screenshots at 3 different perspectives, where the left is upon initial spawn or reset, and the right is after performing any of the aforementioned functions.

    Screenshot2024-12-29221232.png Screenshot2024-12-29221241.png
    • These US headlights are most likely the root cause, because by swapping to the other set of headlights in the parts selection menu, the issue no longer persists. In other words, all other configurations with the different sets of headlights do not cause the issue. Having at least one of the US headlights selected (left, right, or both) will trigger the aforementioned problem. Even the console outputted some errors relating to the headlights (when ignoring the rest of the console errors).

    • Said headlights' turn signals are functioning like LEDs when they should be halogens. Even the Limited trim level did not have LED turn signals from the factory, except for the mirror-mounted turn signals. And speaking of which, those turn signals are functioning like halogens when they should be LEDs. These are based on my observations in the United States, where the 4Runner is a common sight as previously mentioned.
    • And lastly, the rearview camera casing on the Limited, Nightshade, and TRD Sport should be black plastic instead of chrome or body-colored. This is probably an oversight when implementing the chrome and body-colored tailgate trim.

Otherwise, the update was worth the wait! Thankfully (or unfortunately, depending on which side you're on), Toyota finally unveiled the sixth generation of the 4Runner earlier this year, meaning 2024 marks the end of the fifth generation. I won't ask for the pre-facelift bits to be implemented as that would be another rabbit hole to go through, and besides, the majority of the fifth generation 4Runners I see today are the facelifted ones, be it the SR5, TRD Off-Road, Limited, or TRD Pro. Great job on keeping the mod updated :)

Thanks as usual for your comprehensive input, appreciated as always :)

    So...let's see.

I did manage to fix a bit how the US headlights work, starting with the smoothing not working including the signals, and also the behaviour is as follows:

    Ignition on: DRLs are on.
Lights are on: Lowbeams and signals turn on, signals are static, when signals are used they simply start blinking.
Fullbeams: Highbeams (DRLs in any other state) shine brighter.

Now, according to some videos, the DRL should shine way less maybe, but main issue is they don't shine as yellowish as they should since they are supposed to be halogen. So not only that, a 2nd pair of US headlights would be required with the current white color but no smooth lighting to represent 2021+ lights, with full LED.

But the bigger issue is, the ignition issue still persist, no matter what I try, for some reason as you say, the moment the car spawns with the ignition on, everything is turned off, and since honestly I don't know what the heck I'm doing here anymore, and don't know what else to try, I took the executive decision on passing on fixing this further, I don't know how to fix this mess...as always, I count on someone else helping out, but I don't think anyone will help out...so again, sorry, but for the time being that's a long-time mess I'm afraid.

At least I fixed the mirror indicators, which now act as LEDs. Also fixed the camera casing texture issue, but that's about it. :(

Anyway, I guess a hotfix will come out soon with a few things more fixed and added here and there, hopefully today.

Also, I don't know what's going on with the Limited wheels issue to some users, in my end everything works as intended, with the Limited spawning Bi-tone wheels, and the Nightshade the fully black ones....

I love this mod so much and watching it get better and better over time is so amazing to see. This is sort of a nitpicky small detail, but I would love to see the addition of those warning labels manufacturers put on the sun visors for the airbags and stuff. Other than that, this mod is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. Fantastic work!

I appreciate the response and fixing most of the minor issues I pointed out. And thanks for attempting to address the US headlights causing the aforementioned glowmaps to not work on initial spawn and reset/reload with the given settings. Even if it wasn't successful, at least you did your best and you're aware of the problem. On the flip side, it isn't exactly a fatal, game-breaking bug, since any of the actions I provided will make the glowmaps function as originally intended. Consider it as an interesting quirk for these headlights until someone can fully diagnose the problem in the future; it doesn't detract the overall experience with the latest mod update

On that subject, I can understand your perspective on not being able to add or fix everything by yourself. This may seem like déjà vu since I already explained this in the past to an extent, but I figured I might as well bring it up again as I have also experienced this with the Volvo S60 and V60 mod. As much as I wanted that mod to be worthy relative to other public mods, I had to make some concessions and compromises with my current skill level and modding experience. Similar to how you wanted the Defender mod to have the OCTA variant with all the bells and whistles, I wished for a fully functional facelift digital cluster and some of the latest features introduced in recent major game updates on the Volvo. In both instances, nobody reached out to fulfill the corresponding features in the present day, so such plans are unfortunately put on hold for the time being :(

Nonetheless, the key takeaway is that work on what you're most comfortable with doing, and embrace your strengths and weaknesses. Nothing is perfect in the real world, and that's okay because that is what makes each individual unique. There will be one day when the stars will fully align; you will eventually find the right people to contribute (even if they aren't the same folks as before) and then your vision will be realized. If that means several more months and/or few years of waiting for the Defender OCTA to be added similar to the timeline for the 4Runner Limited parts, then so be it. Patience is the key for success!

Anyways, happy holidays and have a wonderful new year! Once again, I look forward to more updates and progress from you in 2025 :)

Thank you yet again, your messages are really encouraging :)

We are definitely on the same boat with the issues you mention on the Volvo mod...one thing is what you want, and other what you get, I'm already mad my modelling skills are so stuck on novice it took me 2 years to create a few bumpers, as far from a good standard on topology, shading and final result, less alone to create the OCTA, the Defender 90, or simply doing the engine bay, trunk and door sills on the Mégane Scénic...I feel I hit the ceiling (or the bottom...) a long time ago and I'm stuck there, my brain is definitely far from work as good as I would want too (these last years took a really heavy toll on me...) and in fact I feel I got worse on many things, so it's not helping :(

So yeah, will definitely take my time and try not to overthink things, but depending on people's good will is scary too, since without help from so many people, my mods wouldn't even exist, so I kinda feel empty when other are managing to create so much on their own...it's not really envy, just the thought of why I can't be just a bit more up there...seems a bit the same, but it's about just try to do better, but I simply can't, which is heartbraking sometimes...

This is kinda relatable to me too, I also wish I was better at modelling so I could do what I want, but I still can't model anything close to a real car, and the progress is super slow. To me modelling a few bumpers would be a huge accomplishment. I can only really edit existing models, from vanilla game for example, and only if the changes are not too complex. I hope it makes you feel a bit better to know you are not the only one stuck like this.

Well, at least you definitely know your way around a jbeam, you know how much times I got stuck at simple things I had the solution right on my face...of course no one can excel at every aspect of modding, but I would love to, at least, keep my knowledge and level at the point I am right now, I keep forgetting things which allow issues to be added or even reintroduced, for example, for the 4Runner I forgot to save the normal maps with their correct format, which means they were ruined and looked awful, and it's not the first time it happens...

Anyway, as I said I'll try to focus on the positives and everything great that has happened so far, since I can't do much on the Defender right now it's time for me to focus on the Patrol, hopefully I can get that going without at least old problems going my way again (in fact I just fixed its tires, which were looking white depending on the angle....because the normals were not saved with the proper format, of course)

Here's a hotfix to solve an issue with the Limited sideskirts being added as default in every config:

Decided to test all headlight types the 2019 Toyota 4runner has in this mod:

On the US headlights, it is too bright for me.

The wheels on the Bi-Tone limited wheels come up straight black like the midnight wheels, EDIT i know why weirdly when you go to graphics and set "lighting" to ultra it shows but anything below ultra makes it all black. Its a graphics issue i usually run my graphics on medium and it doesnt work at all so see if theres any way to fix that because running in ultra really lags me out
