Original thread: http://www.beamng.com/threads/4th-gen-chevrolet-caprice-classic-update-07-08-2022.57794/ This first release is pretty basic and only includes a handful of configs for each model year. I plan on adding and fixing some stuff later on, but I've decided to release the mod in its current state because I've delayed it long enough. If you'd like to help with the mod, contact me on Discord. Specifically, I need help with the JBeam since that's the most time-consuming part of working on this mod. KNOWN ISSUES: -The car pulls over when it's used as AI traffic. I'm not sure exactly what's causing this, but the vehicle damage UI indicates that somewhere in the rear of the body, the JBeam is unstable. Let me know if you can fix this issue so I can include your fix in the next release. -Door Ajar/Key ignition chime is audible outside the cabin. My knowledge of BeamNG's implementation of LUA is limited, so I don't have a clear idea of how to fix this. Please report any bugs in the #bug-reporting forum in the Discord server at http://www.discordapp.com/invite/BSqK9TaCBt. Spoiler: Frequently Asked Questions Are you planning on adding [insert lightbar/beacon light here]? No, I don't. That's something for the community to make. One of the reasons why is that adding dozens of lightbars to the mod will significantly increase the file size, which was one of the many problems the old version had. Is the boat body or [insert part here] from the old mod be added to the new one? No, I don't. I'm only going to add OEM/OEM-style parts because most of the stuff from the old mod unnecessarily increased the file size of it and was just flat-out ridiculous, even if it added charm to it. Will [insert police livery here] be added? No, I don't. Again, this is another responsibility I'm giving to the community. I'm not good at designing skins, and having dozens of them with presets for every model would unnecessarily inflate the base mod's file size and the number of configurations it has. Will there be a wagon body added? There's no suitable 3D model of a wagon body. I'm not experienced in 3D modelling or JBeam work, either. I know there's a 3D model of a 1991-1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon floating around on the internet, but there's a laundry list of problems with it. First, it's excessively high poly. Like, 3 million polygons. It's a render mesh, not a gameplay mesh, so that's why it's not optimised. Second, it's not detailed at all. Once you see past the 3 million polygons or whatever ridiculous amount it has, the only parts of it that are modelled is the body shell. Expanding on the second point, there's no interior, or at least not a detailed one. The seats and the dashboard don't even vaguely resemble the shape of what it's supposed to be like. The mesh would need to be completely remade from the ground up so it's adapted to work with the sedan body's parts like the doors, front fascia, interior, and UV map for skins. I have reasonable doubt that a wagon body will be added, but if you're willing to model one for FREE, texture it, UV map it, and do all of the JBeam work, you know what the parameters for the model are, as I've listed above. Why does this mod have texture issues? If you have many mods installed, sometimes they may conflict with other mods and cause issues. Remove all of your mods and clear your cache before installing this one. I don't know what to tell you if that doesn't work. Don't report your texture issues on this thread, please. It clogs it up with pages of troubleshooting, usually only involving you and a few other people trying to help you. If you encounter texture issues, ask for help on the official BeamNG.drive Discord server, not here. Spoiler: Additional Mod Information With recent updates to BeamNG bringing openable body panels, actual body-on-frame construction for the Gavril Grand Marshal, etc. I and mehio have decided it's time to remake the mod from the ground up since it's starting to show its age. It uses a modified jbeam of the Gavril Grand Marshal, the most similar vehicle to the Chevrolet Caprice. The model for this mod is from a GTA 5 mod with some additions and tweaks. The mesh is in the process of being reconverted from a higher-quality source because the mod's quality was very inconsistent. It's not finished yet since a lot needs to be done to have a lot of customisation in-game so you can mix and match parts from other model years to your heart's content.
http://www.beamng.com/threads/4th-gen-chevrolet-caprice-classic-update-07-08-2022.57794/ you don't even know how wrong you are
Yes. I also plan on making the speedometer for the 1991-1993 LTZ/Police models digital like in real life since previously, they were analogue because I didn't know how to make a digital speedometer. --- Post updated --- If he did know about the old thread, I think it would still be valid to ask for progress pictures because the mod is going to be completely redone.
Yes, the size has been corrected. My assumption as to why the original mod was disproportionately large is that it was converted from an old GTA: San Andreas mod that used custom scaling to fit in with the rest of the cars or didn't follow the real-life scale of it because the modeller guessed the scale of it. Blender wasn't used commonly to make models for GTA: San Andreas mods back in 2011-2013, so it was probably made using the god-awful ZModeler2 or some other obscure, outdated, and bare-bones modelling software.
I don't have much progress to share for the past few days, but I've made a few jbeam adjustments and some parts were moved to the common folder because I have bigger plans for this mod.
I've been working on the interior as of late. The available interior colours are red, tan, light blue, dark blue, black, and grey. I've also added interior trim design options. The default interior trim is walnut wood; the optional ones are cherry wood, burlwood, matte black trim, and chrome trim. The dashboard picture above is used in 1991-1993 police models and top-of-the-line sporty LTZ models. Complete with a comprehensive gauge cluster, a working trip meter and odometer from the vanilla BeamNG vehicles, and a digital speedometer borrowed from the Wendover.
I might reuse the taxi roof signs and push bars from the old version, but everything else is getting completely redone.
Progress for the day: -Added 6-slot chrome hubcaps (Carryover from 1987-1990, lasted until 1993) -Added 32-Spider Spoke Aluminium wheels (Optional on Caprice, standard on Caprice Classic) -These wheels and hubcaps are all able to be used on other cars (like the Grand Marshal, for example) -Added Caprice LTZ bonnet badge (seen in the 2nd picture of the gray Caprice) -Added more seat designs Over the next few days, I plan on working on the 1993-1994 body, taillights, trim, and hubcaps.
