Second place in the 2023 Modding for Dummies Modding Contest!

My entry for the 2023 Modding for Dummies Modding Contest, made in one month. It adds an off-road winch to the front bumpers of 14 in game vehicles. The winch can be extended with a free spool function and pulled back at an adaptive speed.

The winch can be used to pull stuck vehicles or help when off-roading.

    Winch usage instructions:
    1. Press "T" or click the "Free Spool" trigger to activate free spool
    upload_2023-1-20_14-28-11.png
    2. Hold "CTRL" and grab the hook
    upload_2023-1-20_14-28-50.png
    3. Drag the hook behind a rock or object
    upload_2023-1-20_14-29-52.png
    4. Press the "Attach hook" trigger on the hook
    OR
Middle click while dragging the hook to attach it to the ground (If you prefer to cheat o_O)
    upload_2023-1-20_14-31-42.png
    5. Press "Y" (or "Shift Y") or the "Pull winch" trigger to pull your car
If the winch gives a message saying "Winch overloaded", it means that either the vehicle is too stuck for the winch or the rope might have gotten stuck on a rock/object. You can try using "Shift+T" to extend and unstuck the rope.
When you're done, toggle free spool again, drag out the hook and pull the hook back.
Some keybinds could be overridden so you might just need to use the triggers.

    Vehicles available with the winch:

Also includes one config for the Covet:

    How the mod works:
The rope is made of 30+ hydros that pull and extend through my lua, which automatically controls the speed of the winch pull, allows for a free spool function and stops the winch when there's too much stress. The attach function uses lua to increase the weight of the hook, increasing friction.

Love the mod! Is there anyway you guys can put it on the back of the D seires? (like in the tow hitch option, or a built into the rear bumper) that would be awesome. highly recommended mod!

This is one of my favorite mods when it comes to adding realism to BeamNG.Drive. Could support for the Hirochi RUSH possibly be added?

This is an extremely cool mod, its super awesome to see someone finally adding a winch to the game!
How ever, there is one issue. When ever youre using it on a crawler, the winches hook grabs any rock it touches (when its retracted) which makes it extremely difficult to rock crawl with.
I feel like either hook's friction should be set to 0 when its fully retracted, or, there should be an additional ''hook rest'' bar above the bumper, somewhere on the hood, where you could attach the hook to when its not in use.

It works... barely. I tried to use this with the Upfit model of the H series and D series and wow, it sucks. Everytime when I try to grab the hook, it glitches out and goes to some random place, whether that be under the truck through the ground of the map, or 10 meters away from where I need it to be. When it doesn't glitch out, it gets stuck on the bed of the Upfit, making it nearly impossible to get it off without sending it flying. I would not use this for towing cars, at least with the Upfit's.

Yeah this was never supposed to be used for the uplifts, it might be glitching out because you have your node grabber strength too high. If you actually use it for off-roading it works fine.

Fantastic mod, only one request, can you maybe add this to the H-Series rollback upfit?

Awesome but could we get a version for the T Series and most importantly a pdf explaining how we could put the sp winch on mod cars of our own, for the newbies out there

      Author's Response
Oh yeah I kinda forgot, you should've reminded me. Also the winch isn't really strong enough for the T Series, and it also doesn't have any good mounting spots.
