Hello! This is my entry for the Gambler 500 contest! but most importantly I hope you can have fun with it!
This is a beat up, and neglected 70s hatchback that sat since the early 80s due to electrical gremlins preventing it from running right or at all, so the car sat in the original owners driveway. It continued to sit there, gathering dust and rusting away until the original owner passed, leaving the car to go to the estate sale where two friends picked it up in 2022 for very cheap.
Originally the duo intended to restore the car, but the body rust was too great to restore affordably, and the scope of restoration would have been more than they anticipated, or could afford, so they pivoted the project to be a gambler instead!
What you can see is the culmination of those (virtual) efforts, which is:
-A car that mostly runs
-Stops mostly
-Has a working custom cluster (old cluster was broken!)
-Aftermarket wheel (original wheel missing)
-A home made lift kit
-Larger all terrain tires on the original rims
-Made use of the stock roof rack with new slats to store tools, and gas (yes the gripboards are zip tied to the sides)
-Custom rear bumper
-Exhaust pipe taken from a junk truck
- Front push bumper taken from a off-roader with lights and turn signals
-Cheap winch (broken)
-Fun stickers!
-Snorkel of dubious functionality
-Drivers mirror from a pickup because the original one was missing
-Auction site fender flares
-Tiny joke spoiler
-Very important gambler 500 decals on the sides
-Latches for the hood, and trunk since neither original latches worked
-Beverages for sipping
-Lost the passenger door panel while getting things running (don't ask)
I had a lot of fun making this car, and I hope you have fun driving it! and good luck at the real gambler!![]()
