Beta Randolph Railcar Industries 50 ft Boxcar 1.0

A railroad car that can transport almost anything

Want more skins? Then this is for you
The Randolph Railcar Industries (RRI) boxcar is a railroad freight car that can transport almost anything. It has a special shock-absorbing cushion underframe.

The interior is about 50 ft or 15 m long, 2.9 m wide and 3.3 m high. The quality of the mesh, textures and jbeam is much better than in my diesel-electric locomotive.

The underframe has a sliding center part that is connected to the frame with springs. If something hits the couplers hard, the center part takes the impact and the load won't get damaged. However the downside is that hard accelerations and braking can make the boxcar bounce forward and backward. The ride quality is pretty bad as the suspension is basically just a few coil springs for each truck. 100 km/h is the maximum safe speed. Lack of swing hangers makes the boxcar unstable at high speeds.

The color selector changes the dirt color and the chrominess slider controls how dirty the boxcar is. It is pretty useful because the boxcars won't end up looking the same and no extra skins are needed.

I highly recommend that you download my diesel-electric locomotive https://beamng.com/resources/wld-fs30-2-diesel-electric-locomotive.7960/.

The boxcar has 7 skins (Beam indutries, BeamNG 1, BeamNG 2, Dynamite Delivery, Onion Pacific, RRI and TastiCola) and can be loaded with paper rolls, TastiCola or six boxes of dynamite. I've released a skin pack on the forums if you want more skins: https://beamng.com/threads/50-ft-boxcar-realistic-skins.62939/.

This also includes one config with a really simple jbeam that won't blow up your cpu. It is super useful if you want to have like 10-20 boxcars and drive a train without caring about realistic crashes.

    Controls:
    • T = open/close left door
    • G = open/close right door
    • Brakes can be operated from the locomotive
    Placing a train on tracks

Almost every map with train tracks has a section of tracks that is parallel with the map's x or y-axis. The train can be aligned by setting the rotation W value to 0 or 90 and moving it on the tracks

    Coupling boxcars and locomotives together

Railcars can be coupled together using the coupler system or the node grabber. If you use the coupler system, always couple the second last railcar to the last railcar first. Then you couple the 3rd last to the 2nd last and so on. Lastly you couple the locomotive. Also make sure that all of them have Couplers A selected in the parts selector. If you want to turn around a boxcar (180 degrees) you must select Couplers B for it. The node grabber method is far easier though. You just couple the nodes in the middle of the couplers together, no matter which order.
NOTE: I'm 99% sure the boxcar brakes can't be operated from the locomotive if they are coupled together with the node grabber. It is not noticeable with 1-2 empty boxcars but with more than a few fully loaded boxcars the braking distance will be really looooong and the locomotive's brakes may overheat.

    To-do list
    • More loads
    • Maybe more skins
    • More boxes of dynamite for an incredibly dangerous dynamite delivery

Please don't complain if you can't place it on tracks yourself. It may be hard but it's not my or the mod's fault. BeamNG is not a train simulator so that's just how trains are in BeamNG.

This is a beta release so please report bugs!

The dynamite car explodes when you go to connect it to the train and I had to go through a lot of trouble to get the wheels to exist, but other than that, it's decent

This mod is amazing but ever since 0.25 it hasn't been working because either the wheels probably use an asset that no longer exists in the game. or the j-beam so please fix this
