Overview
After quite a long time, I've finally come back to the "Long Travel" suspensions. I'd slowly been planning and working on replacing/updating the old mod for quite some time, but I move at a snail's pace. Despite updates breaking many things in the old files, it was generally a mess and had tons of shared assets that I wanted to move away from, as well as come up with an option that could be used on a stock frame, also meaning it can be used for the Roamer as well.
Details
The emphasis for this mod is geared towards crawling, featuring leaf spring style of suspension in the rear, and a 3-link with track bar in the front with shocks heavily based on how real gas struts function (more on that later).
The new setup allows for excellent suspension travel and flex, all while being able to keep the gas tank in stock location and not interfering with beds, fenders, or cabs. The new suspension also has plenty of tuning and adjustability to account for ride height, wheelbase, weight and personal preference.
For builds with a bit more power, an anti-wrap bar is an available option to prevent axle wrap, and also has adjustable length to maximize flex at any ride height.
Transfer CasesA new transfer case option has been added to the following vehicles...
-D-Series/Roamer
-Hopper
-H-series
-Rockbasher
This new transfer case adds a doubler and rear driveshaft disconnect functions that can be key-binded for on-the-fly use, as well as using the old transfer case logic that was changed for various vehicles in 0.27.
As well as adding new features, the gear ratios of the reductions can both be changed to your liking in the tuning menu.
To use the Long Travel Suspension, simply choose it in the front/rear suspension slots on either the Roamer or D-Series.
To correct the visual issues with the rear driveshaft (if using the rear), also equip the Long Travel Rear Driveshaft to fix it.
Simply select the Ultra-Crawler Transfer Case option to use it on the supported vehicles.
To add keybinds to the new functions, enter the controls tab in the settings, open "Vehicle Specific" bindings and add a bind to "Doubler" and "Rear Disconnect".*
*Outdated: All bindings will now be done under "Vehicles" as "Toggle Doubler" and "Toggle Rear Disconnect".
Bringing a niche suspension style into Beam.ng, I-Beam/Traction-Beams are well beloved in the desert racing community for their high travel and excellent strength.![]()
For Unsupported Vehicles
Some modded vehicles may share a transfer case slot with the D-Series/Roamer or Hopper, allowing those vehicles to see the option for the transfer case but it WILL NOT WORK and ultimately cause the vehicle to not function. To remedy this, a second option for those 3 vehicles has been added that will let you use the transfer case, but it will not have bindable controls. If you would like to add support to a modded vehicle, there will be readme.txt in the mod folder explaining how to do so. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!**
**Outdated: Any vehicle using the transfercase slot of any of the listed vehicles will be compatible without any work. Simply select the transfercase.
How to Tune the Shocks
![]()
The NITROx shocks on the front suspension are custom made to replicate nitrogen shocks that are popular on many rock crawlers around the world. Being based off of nitrogen shocks, they have a unique tuning system that may be hard to figure out at first, but will be explained further here...
![]()
Top Valve Pressure- This setting increases pressure in the top portion of the shocks, simultaneously increasing spring rate and ride height as nitrogen is (theoretically) pumped in. It's best to think of this option as increasing the spring rate on a regular tunable shock. This option ultimately is used to set desired spring rate and set base ride height.
Bottom Valve Pressure- This setting increases pressure in the bottom portion of the shocks. Increasing this setting will act against the top valve (which is trying to push the vehicle up), forcing the vehicle down and increasing the resistance for down-travel on the axle. This setting is best used to set the vehicle to a desired ride height, but when tuned can help aid traction when flexing and keeping the vehicle stable at high angles. This setting can be turned down to 0 PSI if you would prefer to have a more regular experience, but it's recommended to play around and try different tuning.
New to Update 2.2!!
Twin I-Beam & Traction Beam Front Suspension
Twin I-Beam for 2WD builds...
Twin Traction-Beam for 4WD builds...
To go along with the high travel fronts is a new leaf-sprung rear, best suited for desert trails. (Uses the Long Travel Driveshafts).
