Idle Stop-Start System 1.1.1

Equip your vehicles with automatic engine shut-off when idling under cetain conditions

  1. ThatTonybo
This mod is broken as of 0.27 onwards. A patch is on the way but no planned release date. Please stop posting negative reviews.

This mod adds an additional modification to certain vehicles: an Idle Stop-Start System.

This system will shut your engine off temporarily when you are idling under certain conditions, and restart it once you take off (releasing brake, applying throttle or clutch), just like how most modern cars shut off at traffic lights, annoyingly.

Equipping it is super simple: [ESC] -> Vehicle Config (or [Ctrl]+[W]) and pick "Idle Stop-Start System" under the "Additional Modifications" menu

Then, drive off! The system will kick in whenever you idle under specific conditions. The following logic determines how it functions:
    • The system will consider your vehicle "idling" if there is no throttle input, the brake is pressed in, and the parking brake/handbrake is not applied for the required idle time
    • For Automatic-based transmissions (Auto, DCT, CVT), it requires you to be in drive/D
    • For Manual-based transmissions (Manual, Sequential), it requires you to be in neutral/N
    • Releasing the brake, applying throttle or applying the clutch (manuals only) will restart the engine
    • If for any reason throttle or clutch input is detected, the brakes are released, the parking brake/handbrake is applied or the vehicle is shifted out of the required gear during the idle countdown, it will cancel the idle countdown and not shut the engine off
The "required idle time" is 1.5 seconds by default, but is fully configurable in the vehicle config's Tuning tab: [ESC] -> Vehicle Config (or [Ctrl]+[W]) -> Tuning

It supports the following modern vehicles:
    • Bruckell: Bastion
    • Cherrier: FCV
    • Civetta: Scintilla
    • ETK: K-Series, 800, 1300, S-Series, 800 Ute
    • Gavril: Vertex
    • Hirochi: Sunburst, SBR, CCF2
      Land Rover: Defender
      (as of 1.1)
    • Raven: R20
    • Toyota: 4Runner (as of 1.1)
It does not support electric vehicles (Such as the Vivace E or the eSBR) as they perform differently; electric engines are technically in a permanent "off" state until you apply throttle, and do not have a method to turn the engine on or off

An additional note: I can't guarantee this works with the Arcade gearbox behavior. Arcade forces the brakes on whenever you're stopped, however it also forces the vehicle into neutral when stopped usually, which Idle Stop-Start doesn't function with. Realistic gearbox is recommended.

I liked this mod when it was working, but sadly it doesn't work now. Anyways it there gonna be a rework soon? Or even will the rework ever happen? Its sad seeing this cool masterpiece left to rust.
PS. I just saw your profile and your mods and i didn't see any of the mods being updated in a while. Did you quit making mods or are you taking a break? LMK

Unfortunately does not work with any vehicle I tried from the list. A message shows up saying the engine was restarted manually due to idling

0.26 and later broke the mod I believe, a rewrite is planned some time soon.

Though I don't appreciate the 1 star review for an issue of which you could of messaged me on Discord OR the forums about.

10/10 does everything you will think it would do and more. Finally i can rage in game too when the engine shuts off just when i want to press the gas. so immersive!

Great mod but 1 5 seconds is way too much 1 second is how it is in modern cars sometimes even before you stop the car will shut off. 2 I remember someone else made a stop-start mod for only the etk and when you step off the brake it started really fast. Modern cars have a second starter to start the car faster instead of wearing out the main starter and it starts it faster. finally, 3 it should start when you let off the brake not the gas. Butt overall I love it thanks...

All of the features you've mentioned (faster idle time, quicker restarts and brake starting) are already implemented and coming out very soon. Additionally, you'll be able to configure the required time idling between 0s (instant) and 5s, with a 1.5s default.

Another suggestion: the engine shouldn't wait for the throttle to be pressed to turn back on; instead it should come on when the brake is released, that way it's already running by the time you step on the gas. That's the way my real world car, a 2019 chevy equinox, does this.

I agree with Respvin and might also add, that some cars turn off without ANY delay. While slowing down to a complete stop under certain circumstances, it'll shut off at 2km\h and be off when you already stopped. In order to further minimize the idle fuel consumption.

I've come to a middle ground of a 1 second delay for the next version. I do agree 5 seconds is a bit too much, and even 3 seconds is a bit long.

The delay is based off the one car I drove with this tech, as it had a small delay before turning off in case you pulled up at lights and they went green as you did, saving you an engine cycle. 1s is a nice middle ground as it shuts off nice and fast but gives you that small bit of wriggle room if you do stop but need to go again.

I may look into seeing if there's a way for me to have this configurable per-car, ie. in the tuning settings, as having it as an option is probably the best thing.

I'll try and find out if I can patch it to work with them, however I'm not going to guarantee that I can as I'm still learning Lua :)
