Beta Hopper Leaf-Springs 2.0

Now featuring slightly-less jank

  1. oioioioo
    Hey guys, welcome to Part 1 of the ReDux of my 3rd-ever mod release;
    Leaf-Sprung Axles for the Hopper

    'nuff said.(Thanks Sithhy™)

It adds leaf springs to the hopper... what more do you want from me?!

    Example images:
    HJ.jpg
    Willys.jpg
(These Boiz are now included as configs too, they were previously just images for illustrations' sake)

This mod consists of the vanilla Pickup leaf springs "Frankensteined" onto the vanilla Hopper axles. As such, all vanilla hopper axle-attachments work as intended.
(Vanilla swaybars, vanilla shocks, vanilla steering, vanilla trackbars added as selectable parts)
    Examples; Front:

    Rear:
    screenshot_2022-12-13_18-47-22.png
Like the Hopper axles, it can also be used just as well without any attachments; Front:

    Rear:
    screenshot_2022-12-13_18-48-03.png

Here's a Jbeam pic to prove the leaf springs are properly Jbeam'd.
    screenshot_2022-12-13_17-00-31.png
(Hard to tell anything, but you get the point)

    This mod also adds a side-exit "Short Exhaust" to avoid interference with the rear leaf shackles;
(It IS properly Jbeam'd and the smoke exits where it ought to)

    The problem:
    screenshot_2022-12-13_19-08-47.png

The solution: You would not believe how annoying it was to un-break the textures.
    screenshot_2022-08-12_15-42-41.png

It is unequipped by-default as I didn't want to force vehicles to equip it whenever you change engines. It's easy enough to equip manually: Oops you can see my "Pitch" app in the background...

Now onto some bugs and issues...

    1. The soft-top makes the rear springs collapse.(@jimmyking has made a soft-top which fixes this issue, download it here if you care that much lol https://www.beamng.com/resources/hopper-leaf-springs.19398/)
    2. The springs are actually unbreakable as I didn't carry-over the "breakgroups". (YET)
    3. The driveshafts will sometimes break when they shouldn't.
    4. The spring meshes themselves look/deform kinda bad, tbh, ngl, smh...
    5. You will sometimes get bluetooth driveshafts.
    6. The higher your suspension is, the less it likes torque.
    7. If you set the suspension TOO high, the swaybars can invert. (this will be adressed with longer endlinks eventually, for now cry about it)
    8. If you remove the front tackbar you'll get really bad bumpsteer, but that is realistic for old jeeps.
    9. You'll want to tune your toe regardless of whether or not you use the trackbar, I use "advanced wheels debug" UI app for that.
    10. If your springs fold you need longer shocks, equip the off-road shocks if your vehicle sits high.
    11. Sometimes the vanilla steering will stop being tunable, Idk why yet...
    12. Lastly, the vanilla steering clips through the lifted springs.

    Special Thanks to:

BeamNG Devs : Making vanilla assets for me to bend to my will
@Agent_Y : mostly-Fixing the bluetooth driveshaft & the tuning menu variables in 1.0, and generally giving some encouragement/advice

"I've seen all this! What does the ReDux even do?!":
It's primarily just bug/texture fixes and parts-tree optimization FOR NOW.
    CaptainRex.png
Shackle length is adjustable now, too...
    screenshot_2022-12-13_19-24-11.png
    screenshot_2022-12-13_19-24-42.png
(Yes, I know it looks bad... I'm working on it)
There is more to come, it's just slow-going.

I Don’t usually rate things but this is not bad for being your third mod I mean yes you are still new to modding and Don’t know how to do textures but you can learn like me I basically taught myself so if I can you can to just a bit of inspiration for you

Yep, this is actually Part 1 of a complete ReDux of my 3rd mod, but you're right, I am still fairly new to modding. I've been meaning to make myself learn texturing from scratch so I don't have to keep stealing vanilla models, but I've been strapped for time lately... I'll get there. Thanks for the review!

Amazing mod seems to be of great quality, unfortunately no matter how i adjust the steering center and toe i can't get it to track straight, it always pulls to the left.

Yeah, I checked it out after reading your review and you're right. Without the trackbar it's basically impossible. My alternate steering linkage had a wider adjustment range, but the mesh for it is totally broken and I'd have to completely redo it before releasing. Anyway, in the front suspension, equip the trackbar. Normal-height springs should track perfectly as is, lifted springs you need to set "Toe Left/Right Trim" to +19 and "Toe Adjust" to -19 for straight-tracking. The trackbar is NECESSARY for straight driving if you use the arrow keys. Alternate steering linkage is part of the re-work and will be released.... sometime.... lol

I still don't understand why some old Cars or maybe the Van don't have Options for Leaf Suspension or generally don't have them. Great Mod!

Thanks! The van actually does have them btw, but yeah I know what you mean. I felt like they were missing from the hopper, that's why I added them.
