Beta Garage to Garage Survival Mode 0.1b

5 levels of difficulty to make you give up :)

  1. Hash

Are you bored of Garage to Garage Delivery?

Why not spice things up with...

    UI shenanigans

    Parking spot shenanigans

    Spam

    Raining cars

Can you beat all five levels?
    I doubt it.
Because I can't beat them either.
Good luck, have fun, and remember: winning is not allowed.

While this mod seemed kinda interesting, at some point it just became a chore. I even got rickrolled >:P
There are no other vehicles spawning at all, so I guess that took away quite a bit from the full experience, but level five is just so annoying:
    1. You have to beat every run three times for it to count (don't do that. It just makes it annoying)
    2. The reduced gravity is very frustrating since traction becomes awful, you flip all the time and the turning circle becomes so big that it's useless
    3. The daylight cycle strobing is really disorienting and annoying. Please don't make it strobe and increase the minimum daylight cycle time
    4. There is not a lot of content overall. The popups got old very quickly, and I luckily found out that you can remove them via pressing escape. The bouncing widgets weren't really that bad since you could still look at the gauges and stuff on the dash

Overall - I guess it's fine, but it has issues that make it frustrating

This mod is what I would call "YouTuber bait". It has some great ideas in it, but gets dragged down by various cheap tricks that make it less of a challenge and more of a gamble.

I went and beat all 5 levels once, and I have the strong feeling that the aspects that get added are picked randomly as well. I lost 3 of my 5 attempts in level 3, but managed to get through every other level on my first try. And I have the strong feeling that was because of traffic, since levels 4 had no traffic and level 5 a single other car at a time.

I'll now got into the various random aspects, so if someone reading this doesn't want to get spoilered, they should skip to the end from here.

Alright, let's start with the good stuff.

Spicing up the traffic by including more than just the default traffic AI is generally a nice idea, I'd say. It allowed me to go faster on some stretches since the AI too drove significantly faster. I appreciated not having to wait for 10 seconds for a driver to turn right on an empty intersection. I also like that the selection of AI vehicles seems far broader than in the regular scenarios. It's fun to see a T-series speeding on the highway.

Another nice touch was making the navigation not pick the fastest route to the destination, and instead lead the player around some back roads and gravel paths. That was quite a nice way to keep my eyes on the actual goal.

Finally, playing with the environment through adding the day-night-cycle and in the final level even changing the gravity in regular intervals gave another nice challenge not present in the regular garage-to-garage scenarios. I enjoyed that part of the challenge.

Now to the not so great parts...

Playing with the UI seems funny at first, but quickly gets annoying if the effect is in full force after you barely made it 20% of the way, and then stays that way for the rest of the level. The bouncy UI is in this case more annoying than the spam, since the latter is less distracting in the end.

The day-night-cycle mechanic may be nice, but why does it have to speed up, and then to such a degree? In the levels where it happened I ended up with the cycle maxing out at literally a second from one dawn to the next. It's not quite stroboscopic yet, but quite irritating already.

The "raining cars" can be either a mild annoyance (Pigeon) or a sure-fire way to end you attempt (T-series or bus). Thankfully it seems that that function picks from the surrounding AI cars, so you know you are safe if you are alone. It also helps that the car is dropped straight ahead, so if you are driving a corner anyway, you are usually safe.

As a little note, the "Press [key] to give up" prompt isn't necessary. I know how the game works, thank you. The little mocking "Give up!" prompt is more in line with what I expected from this.

Also, there has been some playing with the confirmation on the reset. It may be fun to do the "Are you sure?" loop a few times, but in my case it ended up with showing me "No" twice as answer and reset me, when I tried to cancel the reset. This is not a place where you should trap the players.

And finally, there are some deal-breakers that really sapped my enjoyment from all this.

One of them is that among the AI choices there seems to be the demo-derby AI. These cars hunt you down full-throttle and just want to crash into you. On wide and open roads that is okay, but the Italy map also has several narrow passages with walls on both sides that make dodging these drivers impossible. That is, if you recognize them soon enough. It is rare to come out of a crash with these in a driveable state, and you can be sure that the next one will have an easy target then. There is difficult, and there is unfair, and I think these drivers crossed the line.

The other thing is the "Cheater!" prompt. It seems to be triggered by the navigation rerouting, or at least that's how I triggered it most of the time. I can live with the screen going black for a moment. What I can't deal with is the ear-splitting motor buzz that plays during that blackout. I was glad that Beam in an inactive window is muted, but keeps responding to my controller, so I could circumvent that atrocious sound.

Spoilers are ending here, you can all come back!

All in all, this scenario is little more than a collection of bad memes. There are some genuinely good parts to it, but they are sadly drowned out by loads of cheap tricks and bad decisions. If this is supposed to be a meme, there is already too much effort in it. If this is supposed to be a legitimate challenge, then make sure that it's actually testing the player's skill, not their luck. Some people may enjoy slogging through this mess, but I certainly didn't.

great mod to have fun! in my one and a half hours I made it to stage 4, but then it was just to hard. Maybe I will try again later, but the constant rain of cars, including one that is invisible (might be a problem with my mods)
all in all, great mod to beat, even if you are not supposed to!
Also I found out if you press ESC twice, you reset all the UI stuff, making it easier if you use it
