Beta Dowon Island 0.1.2

Imaginary island in South Korea

  1. êêêê -0-
This is my first time with a map, so the quality may decrease a little.
    But please enjoy it!

    Introduction
It is an island with notorious terrain and barely managed roads somewhere in the East Sea of Korea.
It is currently under Guljin County in Gangjeonbuk-do Province, and in the past, it was in Maju County in Gangjeonbuk-do Province.

    Known issues
    1. There may be some bad quality or unrealistic parts,
    2. There are issues with too many trees sticking out.

    Don't ever upload it again.

I honestly found this map beautiful and fun to drive in, even with an old Barstow. Yes, some of the roads are a little too steep, but for the most part, I love this map.

It has a lot of potential. Some of the roads are unbelievable steep though. I struggle to believe they got heavy equipment up those hills to pave those roads. The map is only enjoyable in a truck or rally car, which then makes me wish there were more dirt roads available and some interesting areas only accessible by dirt roads.

It's called Dowon on the forums but it's called Guljin in the free roam selection screen. I'd bet it also has a zip file name that is obscure or too common to know what it is for sure.

To reduce impact of that 2 star review I'll give you 5 ⭐, but tbh your map is 4 stars overall

For a first map I would say this is definitely not the worst I've ever seen, but there is a lot of room for improvement here in order to make a map like this truly shine, as South Korea is a very beautiful place.

I will warn you, as I am giving my honest and blunt take here, but please know that I do not intend to cause conflict as I would love to see this map improve into the future.

My biggest issues with this map are the smoothness (or lack thereof), wideness, and consistency of the roads on this map. Roaming around the map in a modified Civetta Bolide GTT was somewhat as a challenge, as the roads, despite the seeming smoothness, tended to through the car around due to very inconsistent road surfaces that were hard to judge, and I found myself going much slower than I would have liked through many corners due to this, combined with extremely steep and sudden elevation changes and the inconsistent and often lack of banking in corners, this made for a generally unpleasant driving experience.

My next concern, is the scale of the road infrastructure in comparison to the size and setting of the map. The roads, to me, appear to be very out-of-place in how wide they are, (they would fit better in places like an American suburb, or a two-lane highway) and do not play nice with the tight corners and close-quarters of the map. Wide roads are more befitting for speed, and, given what I detailed in my previous issue, you do not get that here.

Adding into this, it makes no sense to me why a four-lane highway would be on an island like this, due to the scale of the island and the tight quarters of the corners and of the island in general, as highways are typically tailored for speeds upwards of 100km/h, with smooth road surfaces, gradual slopes, and wide sweeping corners. You don't get that here, and in my mind, a small island like this would not need that kind of infrastructure in the first place.

Apart from that, the only other issues I'd have are the general lack of detail on the map, though I could overlook that if the basic road infrastructure and layout were better and more thought out.

Again, I apologize if I'm being blunt, and I don't mean to snuff out any passion to improve this map or to make more maps in the future, but based on my observation, this map needs some serious work to truly shine, and I hope that it can be improved upon in the future or with future works.

TL;DR : Map needs a lot of work, but it's an alright first go around.

Thank you so much for your feedback.
It was my first time making a map, so it was a kind of test map that I put in this and that.
I think we can develop better because you pointed out the problem.
      Thank you so much.

Amazing landscape of an island map (need moar South Korea city maps too), my only grievance is that it is very taxing on the CPU and GPU which it can definitely borrow some optimization.

    need polish for sure,
    my notes
remove the 4lane highway it is too sharp and has too much altitude
    more flat spots at intersections
more consistent and smooth roads too much happening
it has fantastic basics I love the layout and the theme is great
the night is also dark but in a good way.
as performance goes u definitely need a load in load out system cause 50fps for me is a first-ever in beam (2090ti 94gb ram)
The detailed signs everywhere are just perfect and very well done

I love the map and this is a really good first map keep up the refinement and I hope this helps you improve.

The quality of the map still needs improvement. During gameplay, the FPS never went above 40, and the average value was no more than 30 FPS.

    - It would be good to add dynamic lighting to the map (lights turn on in the area where the player is located).
    - Add a lighting cycle (lights are off during the day and on at night).
    - Work on the mountain landscape: currently, they are just walls. As an option, you can decorate them with boulders and add textures.
    - The roads seem too wide for such terrain. Considering this is not a wealthy region, it feels odd (this is just my personal opinion and doesn’t affect the evaluation).
