Beta Citybus Hybrid Drivetrain 2.0

A custom configuration of the City Bus that adds a "hybrid" drivetrain

To learn how the mod system works, I created this experimental new configuration for the default Citybus that adds a hybrid drivetrain similar to the hybrid buses found in larger cities like Chicago and NYC. This configuration includes a custom eCVT transmission, which has a built in electric motor for boosted torque and "regenerative braking" which slows down the vehicle using the resistance of the motor (which, on a real hybrid vehicle, captures kinetic energy into the battery and reduces wear-and-tear on the friction brake system).

This configuration is especially great on the "West Coast" map, as the increased torque helps when climbing the steep city inclines, and the regenerative braking likewise helps when descending these inclines.

There is a pre-made "citybus_hybrid" configuration, or you can change an existing configuration to hybrid by changing the transmission selection:

Find this mod awesome, but enabling it instantly breaks all stock wentwards

Should be fixed in the next game update; it's due to a bug in the BeamNG powertrain system that I reported recently. In the meantime, set your default vehicle to a different type altogether (one without a hybrid version) and then you can switch to one of the stock Wentworths and use it.

So much fun, having a Ford CMax hybrid myself it's great to see it well implemented in the game, thanks!

Thanks! I also have a hybrid version of the ETK856 which is a similar body style to the CMax ;)

Love it! It does seems to charge the battery when driving in reverse though.

That's an issue I fixed right after posting the last update; it'll be fixed in the next version

This mod is so niice! I was waiting for this for a long time. :) Little question: Is it possible to reduce the engin starting noise of the bus when switching from EV to gas (to simulate a real hybrid) just like your Etk? Thank you.

The new version will feature "idle stop" like my ETK hybrid does, and I removed the starter sound for that. The "racing" version of the bus still has the normal starter sound because it doesn't have engine idle-stop.

Awesome!! But what does L shift mode do? It reduces power on acceleration as it only half loads the engine? (yet doesn't charge batt.) also the park charge mode needs to have way lower RPM, maybe 1400RPM.

Reducing acceleration power is a bug; I have to fix that. It should be identical acceleration to "D" but when you let off the gas it will slow down pretty quickly without having to touch the brake, as opposed to "D" where letting off the gas just coasts.

I'll be pushing a new version later to fix the acceleration bug, so whenever that gets approved it should work correctly.

I was just on the hunt for a Bus-CVT mod, but this is so much better, the only thing missing is obviously the ui app, but man, this is just gorgeous

Keep an eye out in the Apps section; I submitted the UI app as a separate mod, so once it gets approved you'll be able to install it!

This hybrid system is so awersome that I cant pick a poin for start to explain how awersome is. This isn't vanilla powertrain and I really want it implemented to the game core, IS THAT GOOD. This system would make easy to implement a lot of electric equipment. Like Diesel-Electric and full electric trains; and that bus with multiple articulations. Would you share and explain it to other people or will you keep it for you?

It's technically open source; I haven't posted the source repository anywhere yet. Since the mods are really just .zip files with the source code, anybody can look at the mod file in their game directory and see all the source code ;)

I'll probably write a forum post detailing how everything works at some point.
