After the success of the Commander SUV, Burnside decided to take another risk and enter the ever-growing truck market. The result was the Lakewood luxury pickup truck, based on the Gavril D-Series. Introduced for the 1998 model year, it was made as an alternative to the luxury sedan offerings at the time, including Burnside's own Windsor sedan. Fitted with a specially tuned Burnside V8 engine, a red leather interior with rear captain's chairs, chrome wheels and styling, and a tonneau cover on the bed which by itself was covered with leather, Burnside was hoping to sell 11,000 Lakewood's per-year. However, the Lakewood ended up becoming a massive sales failure. A mass array of problems was apparent, including the lack of 4WD, a lack of styling options, low payload capacity, and numerous tonneau cover failures in the long run, the Lakewood was killed after the 1999 model year, with an estimated total of 3,700 trucks sold.

Three years later in 2002, Burnside decided to give the Lakewood name another shot, but this time, they decided to fix the numerous issues that customers had with the last generation model. To appeal to a more broader customer base, two trims were introduced, SE/SEL, which are the base models, and the SX/SXL which are the top-of-the-line trims. 4WD was offered for the first time, as well as a V10 engine for the SX/SXL models, navigation head unit, even more chrome trim, and an optional rear seat entertainment system available for the crew cab models, a first of its kind for a pickup truck. The second gen Lakewood faired substantially better both in reception and sales figures reaching 12,000 trucks total. However, after only two subsequent model years, the Lakewood was dropped from Burnside’s lineup, with their parent company, Gavril, shifting their strategy to instead release luxury focused trims for the D-Series which would end being a more successful strategy in the long run.
