Bruckell of Japan, Limited was the American automotive powerhouse's Japanese subsidiary. Founded in 1947, just two years after the end of the Second World War, the company targeted low to mid-range vehicles from Ibishu and Hirochi.
Unfortunately, Bruckell of Japan never had quite enough money to develop proper rivals to their rival's sophisticated, sporty, and near-indestructible construction. With reliability a concern and 1970s American-grade build quality, the brand suffered heavy losses. Debt was mounting, and FAST.
So, in 1992, out of money, time, and with employees leaving for other carmakers, Bruckell left the Japanese market... but not without releasing one final automobile: The 1992 Sakura Turbo. Bruckell of Japan's swan song.
The vehicle came standard with:
- 2.1L turbocharged OHV inline 6 rated at 208 horsepower
- Mechanical fuel injection (budget, people)
- 5-speed manual transmission
- FWD w/limited-slip
- Double wishbones up front, torsion beams in back.
The vehicle was good for an electronically-limited top speed of 155 MPH.
Bruckell sold 200 units.
