Experimental Backfire/Afterfire Mod (now customizable and MOD COMPATIBLE) 0.0052

adds some flamey action to every stock beamng vehicle (and most mods with 0.0050 update)

  1. TommoT
This is a mod to add extreme backfire/afterfire to every vanilla vehicle in Beamng. Just select the part "Afterfire" in Additional parts, like in this picture. After that you can now customize every aspect of it in the Tuning Menu. By default it goes on for longer now.
    Afterfire_mod.png
For some vehicles it doesn't work with certain exhausts/mufflers. (for that check out my straightpipes mod to add more flame-capable ones) Because of that you may just have to put on a custom or race exhaust or even take it off completely. It just makes the normal Beamng backfire more extreme, so no custom textures etc... -> this mod doesn't add flames if your game never shows any flames (f.e. on race-/dragracecars) ... that is a problem with your game/graphics and not the mod. Try to up your FPS if Flames dont show. If it is capped at 30 FPS it may not show flames.

    NEW in Version 0.005:
    • Added Support for most mods:
      • The mod now generates itelf for every single vehicle that has a _mod slot (Additional Mod slot)
      • I will create a new Video later on showcasing how to add the slot if your modded vehicle is missing the slot
    • Added Customizable Particulates
    • Changed defaults to be a bit less extreme
    • Because of the new generation feature there will be two mods in the mod tab: one for this foundation and a generated one listed as unpacked/generatedBackfire. disable the generatedBackfire one to disable the mods functionally fully
    • Known Issues introduced with this:
      • Deleted mods will still have a remaining .jbeam file for the backfire functionality. It is recommended deleting the unpacked/generatedBackfire folder if you are removing mods
        • I will later try to implement a feature that those files get deleted automatically if a vehicle is not detected anymore
      • Vehicles that have a mod slot but no engine (like trailers) get the file generated as well, even if it is useless
      • Modded Vehicles that dont have an Additional Modification slot aren't supported yet

    This is how it works:

New Video i made to explain and show how it all works.

If you want to add the mod to any custom vehicles mod, here is a tutorial i made:
(This video is outdated after Version 0.005 as it isn't needed anymore like this)

If you decide to release a mod containing some of my code, please just add some credits :) thanks.
!!! ATTENTION, IF YOU HAVE A GRAPHICS MOD OR RESHADE MOD INSTALLED, THE FLAMES MIGHT NOT BE VISIBLE.
ALSO CHECK YOUR GRAPHICS SETTINGS TO MAYBE FIX MISSING FLAMES!!!

    Have fun!! :)

    Known issues:
    • flames not appearing for some people (not an issue of the mod itself, try experimenting with your graphics settings).
    • flames may disappear after some longer time of driving with the mod turned on
    • If a vehicle mod doesn't have a "vehiclename"_mod slot, the mod won't work
      • (i will make a video how to add the required slot later)
    • If you remove a mod that the file was generated for at the moment the jbeam file will remain inside the unpacked/generatedBackfire folder
      • I plan to change that so they get automatically removed
      • Fixed with the new update by always cleaning on game closing
      • On first loading or adding a new mod the file must first be generated. For that you might need to press ctrl + L to reload the lua or just restart the game
      • If the modded vehicle doesn't have an exhaust which allows for flames it show them (for example the CCF afaik)

    is compatible with version 0.15?

idk, you gotta test i guess.
If the newest version isn't compatible you could try using the first version or just one of the older ones, as the lua may not be compatible.

Beammp handles mods differently to the normal game. It usually disables all mods, so you would need to have it all added to the server

Excellent mod, do you plan on making it universally available to any vehicle?

      Author's Response
It now is compatible with any vehicle featuring an Additional Modification - slot (in code "vehiclename"_mod). So most good mods are now automatically compatible.
I will later also make a video how to add the Additional Modification - slot if the vehicle mod doesn't feature one, so it is compatible as well.

Had this mod in the past. ain't any other backfiring mods I've found, however... it's a but to extreme, and still with no adjustment.

I often make vehicles with a tuned engine that would back fire a few time or so after revving to the limiter and letting off, but not so much that it would backfire like a Hill-climb car or a pro-stock drag car.

Unfortunately this mod only does the latter with zero tuneability to customize the rate/amount of backfiring(which I was hoping it had).

So I'm, making this review to request a tuneability to the mod in the tuning tab in game, or maybe different levels of backfiring to select from in the parts menu at least.

As it is, it is a good mod... just for extremely tuned up engines or ones with bad tuning.
