After way too many maps worth of bodging up old dubious quality plates over the years I have finally gone and bit the bullet and sat down to put together some proper, hopefully better quality, realistic Japanese plates. These have been based on all the best references I have been able to dig up and features the full* range (excluding bike and diplomatic plates) of Japanese registration plates at what I hope is the best quality representations yet in BeamNG
Content List
4 main plate types:
-Private vehicle (standard)
-Light vehicle (kei)
-Commercial vehicle
-Commercial light vehicle
9 different locations (all correct real world issuing government offices)
-Himeji, Hyogo
-Kagoshima City, Kagoshima
-Kochi City, Kochi
-Kumamoto City, Kumamoto
-Sapporo, Hokkaido
-Shinagawa, Tokyo
-Shizuoka City, Shizuoka
-Toyota, Aichi
There's no specific pattern to the places chosen, it's mostly just a mix of trying to get an even spread of different areas across the country and then some places I fancied adding. I don't want to add too many more to prevent flooding the parts selector but if there's any place with particualr demand I could add them
Special plates - I have also added a few extra unique plates, these are only available under Shinagawa to once again prevent flooding the parts selector.
-Olympic special plates (both standard and commercial versions)

-US Air Force plates (Okinawa only - the standard Okinawa plates are not included here as they were made for one of my Yakuza ports, I'll include the regular versions there someday whenever that gets updated)

Features
-High quality, accurate font - This has been created from a mix of official government sources and anything remaining has had proper vectors traced by @Car_Killer for the most accurate possible font, including the standard symbols (this also means no letters are supported due to the fact its basically impossible to get references for these)
-Realistic proportions and spacing - I have made sure the sizing, positions, etc of all the elements and the font are as close as possible to real life, once again using government sources for references - here's the final elements overlayed on the boxed out digital reference I used

-Randomised hiragana characters - I've stuck my fingers into HTML for the first time to create a system that displays a random valid hiragana character on the left side of the plate - There are two different sets for private vehicles and commercial vehicles respectively and a random one is chosen whenever the plate is generated
-Customisable numbers - I've also gone ahead and made the top row part of the plate text so that it can be customised. While i'm not able to add the whole set of rules regarding vehicle size and class as to how they are assigned IRL, they should generate something vaguely correct for the plate type. These also support the fabled 2 digit numbers, achieved by putting a second / in the 3rd position and can be rarely generated.
-Extra characters - The mod includes some of the other standard characters for the not strictly standard plates. This includes the small dots that go in place of a number for low number plates and the correctly sized blank space to replace the - for these, as well as a couple extras including the X commonly seen in video games to create invalid plates (such as the Yakuza series)

-High quality textures - while I am no means a professional graphic designer, I have tried to make everything look presentable and high quality, including full normal maps (except the hiragana characters, since they're just unicode printed in html)
Format info
As there's 2 lines here, the format is a bit more complex than the old style plates (except temporary plates, as they don't have the extra numbers on the design)
The standard format is 123/12-34, where the first 3 numbers are the top row and the second set is the main bottom row. the / character is invisible ingame and purely used to visually separate the two in the text box. Entering a second / in place of the last number on the first row will fill in the space for it, to allow for a 2 digit number instead (12//12-34)
Also supported are plates with the • in place of the first few digits - these can be created by replacing numbers with the .
These plates are also supposed to have a space in place of a -, which is achieved with the standard space character which I've carefully aligned to take up the same space. A full plate with this format would look like 123/.. .1 or similar
The characters X/x and & are also coded into the font
This info shouldn't be neccesary for most users as the game generates it itself, this is just for people who want to experiment with different fancier plates

@Ezo - Original old versions these have replaced
Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism - Original pdf vectors I used for references, half the base font and the olympic plate texture

@Peterkragger_PL - Spawning the original post that the specific plans for this mod came from
@! nick - Discouragement
Extra side note, I've only discovered 5 minutes after uploading this here someone else made some like a month ago, I had no clue (also those appear to have the font borrowed without notice* from my/ezo's old wonky ones that these are replacing anyway (and, the really old pre-fixed versions) so that proobably balances out any stolen thunder here)
If you have any suggestions (ignoring bike and diplomatic plates, too much effort for no vehicles and entirely wrong shape respectively) feel free to let me know.
There is a 50% chance any bugs are fixed by regenerating a new plate (because beamng) so try that before clogging it up with 1 star reviews for any perceived game breaking* problems
