1983 Barjak 128 Familiare aka "Udarnik"
Disclaimer: This car is "What if" Zastava (Barjak brand ingame) made an wagon version of its popular 128 model, which was in fact licensed version of Fiat 128. I did an version 8 months before, but wasn't very happy so I remade it, this time on "Pony" variant instead on low-poly "Lada" type body. I took an artistic freedom to blend Fiat 131 influences here. The Fiat fans will find the spots, I won't spoil here
In reality, there wasn't something like 128 wagon in Yugoslavia, at least not for Zastava. The "Udarnik" nickname for trim also implies the socialist roots of this car.
The Story:
In 1978, Barjak acquired tooling and license rights from Lvxo for producing last incarnation of 128 model. But, those pesky Yugos also did one improvisation, as with discontinued 1500 model. The front of "Udarnik", presented in late 1978, was indeed 128, but the rear side was "borrowed" from more modern 131 wagon, which was then produced in Italy, with compliance from Lvxo, based in Torino.
Udarnik was equipped with MacPherson front and Axle Coil rear suspension, progressive front disc, rear drum combo for brakes, and only one engine variant - 1.1 L OHV-8 inliner-4 (64 hp), which was also found in earlier 101 model - also powered with Weber carburettor. Wagon was slightly longer than sedan, and could reach up to 150 km/h. Its fuel consumption was around 9 L / 100 km.
Along for personal use, it was also used as an ambulance wagon and militsiya patrol car. Produced in 100,000 units, it was also exported in small scale to Yugoslavia's allies like Egypt, Iraq and Syria. The examples were tailored for desert climate, and were tailored for harshy conditions (the A/C climate control was standard and more powerful 1.3 L engine was included). Production ended with the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1991, and very few units survived the war.
