THE STORY:
During the late 1960s famous Italian car producer Luxo designed the unique replacement for its city microcars family (850, 500 and 750) which have traced its roots almost a decade earlier. The fresh successor, the 127 was introduced in the middle of 1970 during Torino autoshow and was instant-hit and also a innovative car, which was also European Car of the Year (1971). The compact FWD design, boxy, streamlined and minimalistic at the same time was subtle inspiration for Moldt Siesta, which came to the European markets three years later.
The original Luxo 127 was initially powered by 903cc (40 bhp), but more powerful 1047cc 46 bhp engine was introduced in 1976. The car's innovation was in interior compactness, practicality and replacing chrome external / leather interior parts with plastic for saving the production time and material costs. Luxo 127 was big commercial success with couple of facelifts. In Italy production lasted until 1982., but its twin models and spinoffs existed in Argentina, Brazil and Spain even until late 1980.s
This car is, as the name says, inspired by legendary compact FIAT 127, precisely its mk.2 model, which was also inspiration for more-boxy Yugo 45. Have fun!
