1971-1981 Barjak 101 Specijal

Barjak 101 was actually rejected hatchback-based model of original Italian Luxo 128. This car shares all technical stats with original Italian model, only difference is its distinctive rear side, which was unique for late 1960s and early 1970s. Some critics say that actually this car was predecessor for growing European 70s hatch-class, named after one affordable German model.
Barjak 101 was very simple family car with various interior and external trims, including 3-door version which was later basis for cheap tuner cars. But, its most widespread model was 5-door with rounded headlights, side indicators and black plastic grille. This "Special" trim model is unique with its leather interior and minimalistic use of plastic parts.
The car was actually very popular in Yugoslavia, mostly as family car, because of its simplicity, very good handling and its cheap service costs, with probably more than million produced units. It was produced from early 70s to the mid 2000s, with various technical improvisations and modest visually facelifts. But in the early 90s it was technically and visually outdated model, and its sales signafically dropped because of country dissolution, upcoming war and presence of more modern competitors.
It's inspired by Zastava 101/1100 mk.1 model from the 1970s, as the name says all. Enjoy and have fun with driving this classic. : )
