Alpha 1967 Gavril GT30 MKII V1.0

GT30 MKII

  1. Blake Rodabaugh
The GT30 MKII is my try at the Ford GT40 from 1966. It has a 492 HP V8 engine that makes 493lb-ft. Fair warning when driving it. It Wheelspins a lot. I made it black because it looked the best out of all the colors I tried. I also do plan to make a MKIII and MKI version of the car.

    BACKSTORY
In the 1960's Gavril wanted to make a car to compete in the 24Hour of Le mans. There had never been an American team to win there. There was only one American that had ever won there. His name was John Ashley. He had won with Cougar Motors and wanted to win again as a manufacturer. And thus came the BC Diamondback.

Jump to 1963 and Gavril heard word the Civetta is bankrupted. This was a perfect time to get into racing because if they bought them, they would get all the racing equipment they needed. But Civetta backed out in the 11 Hour. CEO at the time, Gavril Kevin Gavril the 2nd. Said "I don't give a $%!& what it coasts. Were gonna build a race car. And were bury old man Leonardo Civetta 100 FT into the ground at Le Mans. And so, Gavril motor company started the "Special Vehicles Department." But they had no idea what to do. So, they called upon John Ashley to help them.

In 1965, Gavril with the help of Ashley America Inc, created the Gavril GT30 MKI. It had 289 Cubic Inch, 90-degree V8 that output 390 HP. They took it to le man's where it was running well. Until in the 19 Hour, the gear boxes on 2 out of the 3 cars they brought, broke. The third car blew a line. They had been made fun of again by Civetta. But on their final lap before car 3 blew a line, they had clocked 190 MPH on the Mulsanne straight.

In 1966, John Ashley helped Gavril develop the GT30 MKII. They also had Leo Speed as their test driver. He helped make the car faster and more able to use at speed. They first competed the GT30 MKII in the 24 Daytona. It absolutely dominated there and won a full 3 seconds ahead of second place. Then they took it to le mans. They had a slight issue at the beginning. Leo slammed his helmet on the door frame when he got in and bent the frame. After they fixed it, they were smooth sailing until the 13 Hour where the breaks were toast and the switched the breaks out for a new set. After that, they got back on the track and climbed up to First place. But Kevin Gavril the 2nd wanted the 3 GT30's to line up in a line together. And so, Leo backed off and lined up with the other 2 GT30's. When they crossed the line, everyone thought that Leo had won. But since the race ended in a Heat, Braylon Mantis was declared the winner because he started further back. Leo was not mad. In an interview after he got out of his car, an interviewer asked him a question and he responded with "Please be careful with what I say. The folks have been awfully nice to me."

Later in 1966, Leo was testing the MKIII at riverside. His brakes failed on him and he went over a ridge and took flight and died. John was never quite the same. When the GT40 MKIV was being made, the test driver had no idea what he was talking abought.
