In the late 50s, Porsche started toying with the idea of trying F1, because they were changing the rules to be more like F2, and Porsche had one of those. It failed, so they modified it to be more compatible, but it failed too. Then in 1962 porsche made a complete F1 car, and only won one round.... then they never returned to F1.... ever
