    No, never said it was.

What I meant is that FSM was the new formal/business name of the license manufacturer estabilished in 1970 between FIAT and the Polish government (through FSO, which previously had built the similarly-named Polski-FIAT 125p). Early local 126ps had the Polski-FIAT logo instead of the FSM branding used on the polish-market FSM Cinquecento and "FIAT by FSM" export models, but they were all manufactured by the same entity.

Exactly. And, in this case, inspiration is not even vague or archetypical, but easily attributable to two specific vehicles the Piccolina is quite clearly based on.

Mechanically, it's a mix of both the 600 and the Beetle. Unibody, with what looks like a transverse-mounted leaf spring suspension in the front, like the 600, but with a perfect reproduction of VW's air-cooled flat-4 engine (and, likely, a rear swing axle) like the Beetle.

Same thing for the exterior design: at first sight, it looks closer to the 600 than the Beetle, but some details like tail lights, front fender blinkers or the more curvaceous profile of the wheelarches (and probably dimensions, too) are all Beetle styling cues.

Personal touch of the vehicle artists is in the front-end design, which mixes elements of both with original themes.

Some solutions (front suspension, engine) are so peculiar and clearly ascribable to specific real life references in this case it would be pointless to negate or dismiss the argument.

So it looks like I may have mistaken a race car for a rally car.

I still think there is a chance that a rally configuration will be available. It doesn't seem all that insane, since the 1st Gen Pessima has a rally configuration. Plus I've heard people talk about a rally Piccolina, and that Italy has roads perfect for rallying.

    I think so.

Fiat and VW have rally/off road cars in this class so it probably will have something of the sort.

With the new Offroad wheels added in the last update and the fact the devs have stated that Italy has many great roads for rallying I think there is a pretty good chance that we will get a rally variant of the Piccolina.

I'm also hoping for a Baja Bug-inspired variant as well.

Fender-mounted gems are probably still available for early cars, and that's good. They just shouldn't be used in conjunction with that front fascia with white front blinkers (fender-mounted gems are NOT side blinkers!), as they would be duplicates. It's one or the other, not both.

Car in the trailer looks like a newer model, with simpler badging and mandatory side binkers, plus, I guess, the suppression of suicide doors.

note the much flatter and simpler hood of this later-year model, compared to the first images - (which i assume to be earlier models)

Note also the lack of a passenger-side mirror.
