It seems right now that the community is divided into two groups: One wants to focus on the engine, even at the expense of official content, and the other wants to focus on content at the expense of the engine. Here is my question: why does it have to be one or the other? We have devs like estama working on the physics, and devs like B25Mitch and LJFHutch working on cars and maps. There is a reason there are so many people in the credits - this is not a one-man project, or even a one-team project. The debate here is entirely manufactured, built atop a false dichotomy.
Please tell me your joking! Gabe is the best! He is awesome the AB and Italy are beautiful! If you really want better graphics idk what to do?
I agree that there should be focus on both sides, but both sides should still work together and collaborate. For example, if a programmer adds, let's say official hybrid vehicle support, the creatives should highly consider making a hybrid car to showcase the technology.
That's quite ironic as I find the CryEngine 3 graphics from 2013 to actually look better than the new graphics. (Just my opinion)
The older graphics did look better, but the older graphics were more demanding for the GPU, so the lowering of the graphical quality was most likely for performance reasons. Also, CryEngine 3 was very buggy and unstable for the type of game they're making.
I haven't seen the old engine's graphics, is there a picture compaison of both outlining the difference?
Everybody's talking about fire, but there are really only a couple of things I'd really expect out of it before final release: The ability to affect nearby thermals (fire in the engine bay increases the coolant temperature and front brake temperature if it's severe enough) The ability to self-extinguish after fuel/oil is exhausted Sure, visible fire damage would be cool, but I'm not entirely certain that it's possible to do with a level of realism that matches the rest of BeamNG's simulation. The quick way that many people are thinking of would probably cause the trunk to change colour due to a fire isolated in the engine bay. I'm beginning to have trouble discerning what is and isn't satire in your posts. This wasn't one of them, but there are a few where I'm not too sure.
Here are the older graphics, taken from old videos on BeamNG's channel. CryEngine 3: Torque3d (Old graphics):
Generally, you can tell one of my more shitty shitposts apart from the rest a) if it lacks adequate capitalization, b) if it contains flagrant grammatical errors, c) if it is formatted in a silly manner, and d) if it is a blatant straw man.
It's hard to judge them when they are 2 different pictures. IDK if you can, but maybe the same picture taken with the 2 seperate engine's?
So, you're saying the graphics have gotten worse over time? Pffft, please. An example of what's possible with PostFX and dynamic reflections, almost as good as PBR. Gordon Freeman's Moonhawk is looking pretty good! The graphics are fine, it just takes a bit of work to dial in the PostFX settings.
Some people want this some people want that and some people just want the mod community to take over because they think the mod community can do a better job then the dev team (which some luck few probably could). Me I just want small things done, you know cool realistic things like car configurations, skins and map fixes (like those 2 stupid trees growing in 2 driveways on ECUSA for ex.). What the vocal people in this discussion want are 4 things so far. 1. The mod community to get their stuff together and make mods outside of automation and track builder. 2. Better thermals. Fires, tires, brakes, engine and other things. Would a GTA 4 fire system be a good place holder where the gas tank blows up the vehicle after its on fire for a short time while the other things get proper thermals or the other way around? 3. The dev team to work on older projects promise to us a long time ago and to be more open with the community on current affairs. 4. For the site moderation team to be more strict on mod uploads and to ban people for less serious offences
The problem with the Cry engine is that its hard to make games look good and optimized. Graphical changes are good if you want a game to run. Edit: This game is not forza
You're getting it a bit wrong. Most people don't want cosmetical fire damage (textures), but fire being able to shut off the engine as it would in real life.
