Warning : this thread isn't about this anymore Hello, i'm about to buy an i7 860 or 870, are these good enough to run beamng Drive Nicely/Correctly/Badly/Can't. I'm also planning overclocking if it can help me gaming My config will be: I7 860/870 (Quad core 8 threads 8mo cache 2.93 ghz (for 870) 2.80 ghz (860) GTX 1050ti 4GB OC KFA2 10 GB DDR3 ram 450 Watts Power supply 3TO HDD (even if useless in this post) Thanks for your attention !
well i have fixed myself a budget and my motherboard is an LGA 1156 socket --- Post updated --- MSI IONA GL8E
Surely a £100 4th or even 3rd gen would be far more beneficial? Increased overclocking potential, still relatively quick chips, and a somewhat 'capable' iGPU to fall back on if the dedicated gpu stops working. The only reason to get a first gen is because they are super cheap - but a hexacore i7-3930k only costs about £80 second hand (similar performance to 3770k, but with 2 extra cores!, and cheaper for some reason)
I understand your point of view. The thing is i want to keep my actual motherboard because it's an ATX LGA 1156 socket with 4ram port in it. How much would a card for the 80 pounds processor cost ?
Those processors will run beamng plenty well enough @4ghz+ but your weak power supply may not be stable enough for that much overclock. I am currently running an 8 year old xeon and had an i7 before that. These processors may not have the same single thread performance as the new stuff but they still out perform plenty of much newer cpus that cost more in multithreaded workloads.
Yeah these old CPU's can rock, by tuning the Bus rather than modifying the multiplier. Anyways i've got a bunch of old cpus now and i could test some things. Here are my cinebench scores : I7 4770k @ 4.4 ghz approx 900 on cinebench (multiple runs) : Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.87 ghz (ankward yeah) 1280-1300cb : I3 530 (lol) approx 200 at base frequency (not overclockable :c) : I7 870 (stock) approx 500 cb, At 4ghz 600-620 : Amd Ryzen 3 1300X (3.87 ghz again seems stable on zen 1) approx 600 to 620 like the i7 870*. CONCLUSION TIME ! Sure you can get the best bang for the buck at the 4th gen intel's I7. But mind some most recents cpus as the r5 1600 that Right now in france costs exactly : 160,00 € (12/11/18) Wich is a very nice value knowing these scores are made on the STOCK cooler and for the I7 with my Arctic freezer 33 eSport. All the AMD scores are with stock coolers, cuz i don't have any other 115X intel compatible cooler on hand. I've ordered some 3th gen cpus to try them out, i'll leave you some scores and other benchmarks on these ! ( EDIT : Just received a mail saying i'll get my I3 4160 tommorow ! excited) Have a nice day !
i have an i7 860 not overclocked and it runs good enough for me i can play derby`s against 5 cars with ai i think with 10gb ram and a 1050ti its ok my system i7 860 8 gb ram ddr3 1066mhz radeon hd6950 @ 6970 ssd
That's awesome. I'm owning an 870 (basically an overclocked 860) And i can confirm i was able to play some recent games without a stutter, you can expect a little bottleneck on cpu bound games like BF1 with a 1060 6gb Have a nice day --- Post updated --- btw with a ryzen 5 1600 my max car amount is 18 (10 fps) and approx 10 for at least 30 frames a sec. Nice results in fact that's surprising. Haven't tried out at 3.9 ghz
Hey little update post, just go the i3 4160 and also a "bonus" GTX 745. I'm also going to bench an i5 6400 later this afternoon with a friend's pc
Hello. While at my friend's house i got some exciting new cpus and 3 gpus (just to bench not for free) So i've got: I5 7600K I7 960 Pentium G4560 (+ his i5 6400) And An AMD FX-8350. Gpus : GTX 970 GTX 680 And a 1050 I'll post the benches results. I hope u guys will enjoy these ! --- Post updated --- Also changed the name of the thread that's not a question anymore. If you guys want to ask me to try out a cpu on some games or stuff feel free to ask there ! I can get some cpu's from work if i give them back after my benches. Have a nice day ! --- Post updated --- For "faster" comparisons, i'll post a " cpu list" that i'll update every week or so. Depends how much cpu i benched. I'll start making it tommorrow. As always, Have a nice day or night or Afternoon no ideas but enjoy your life (idk)
In my experience, clock speed isn't "everything" (Well for older intel processors anyways).. For example I have a 3770K system and a older 5,1 classic mac pro.. In my testing, the mac pro (W3690) (similar single core performance as a 2600K I7) edges out the 3770K at 4.3 GHz and the W3690 at 4.1 GHz. Same 1080Ti.
Cache and memory bandwidth are quite important too. There is two ways to be faster, more cpu cycles or more work done per cpu cycle for given time.
You should check out X3440 and X3430 xeons. They are a 4 core 8 thread cpu at 2.8ghz for 15$. Overclocking is a must you should be able to get it to 4 ghz. H55 motherboards are under 50$.
Hello there. I've started the "bench list" where i'll also include some older benches i've done thru the years. Also got an idea about hardware giveaway. Still an idea to develop but i want to make it profitable for the giver and receiver. Anyways not what i was talking about. This list will be pretty simple. I'll refresh it each week the friday except when i get some results from anyone of you or a friend etc. So to resume. Will be made in 2 parts : cpu name, and cinebench score. The "reference" score will be an i7 870 stock, wich is 500. This will make it easier to see what the scores can refeer to in beamng. So i consider any cpu under this i7 870 a cpu you can play on, but to avoid if your gpu is more powerfull than a gtx 960 or so. I'll also update every 2 weeks the cpu "listings". What i call cpu listings are their places, number one being the one with the biggest score. This list is refreshed each 2 weeks and i don't know wich day you guys would prefer. DISCLAIMER: ALL OF WHAT IS WRITTEN OVER THIS COULD BE CHANGED IN THE FUTURE /!\ Hope you enjoyed your day, and have a nice day tommorow guys ! (And girls idk if any are here)
