    Pontiac... But then again Pontiac in the 21st century was just rebranded Chevrolet econo boxes.

    Rover.
    They were independent, then owned by British Leyland, independent again for a couple of years before being bought out in the late 80's, fell under ownership of BMW in the late 90's and finally disappeared in 2005.
