I am looking to use a GPU with a new 'dock adapter' to connect a GPU via an express card slot on my laptop and I want to know if the GPU in the title is good enough to play BeamNG Drive on normal to high settings. I currently play it on a HP ProBook 4530s with 4GB ram, dual core i5 processor and integrated intel HD 3000 graphics which is just a nightmare playing. I can't even have 1-2, small-medium vehicles on lowest settings available, without experiencing buffering/lagging. Point is, is this problem caused by a conflict with the current GPU, CPU or is something else causing the issue. The GPU I'm looking at getting is the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC 4G Thanks in advance!
I have the 1050 TI in my computer and it is a great budget card, especially when the bitcoin mining craze was in
Ok this is the adapter I'm looking at: Expresscard-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card-Dock-p-1009976.html
Banggood, I would stay away from that one, it is ok for cheap gadgets that don't need to be high performance, but I would not touch that card from them.
Ok, I guess its time to start saving up for a pc --- Post updated --- This is the video I got it from watch so I guess its not legit
Knowing goodbang quality items from China, I would not trust those things, might fry your laptop and everything else connected. I have seen stuff from those places having short circuits from factory, nobody really cares what happens with their products so there is no chance to get anything back if thing fries your laptop.
thanks for your help! do you have any other suggestions to upgrade anything on my current laptop, GPU, CPU or anything else to improve performance on BeamNG Drive?
laptops are pretty much not upgradeable outside of buying a new one entirely as gpus are usually integrated in CPU and the CPU is soldered into mobo ... Now even if you got a good working external GPU your still HEAVILY bottlenecked by the cpu, That Laptop DOES NOT meet the minimum requirements for the game anyways
"I currently play it on a HP ProBook 4530s with 4GB ram" I dont know how beamng can run on that, But I have EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 with intel 15 and a 5tb ssd this is the computer I built back at the end of 2016.
Thanks for all the advice! What are the best parts I can buy to build my own pc for the cheapest price, (I'm 12 years old so I'll have to start saving up) to run BeamNG Drive on decent settings for a beginning, even if it is 2nd hand parts. Can you please give me some advice on that. --- Post updated --- And what parts do you recommend I get?
Intel i5/i7 3rd/4th gen An aftermarket air cooler (Cryorig M9i, Hyper 212 Evo are ok for a stock cpu) At least 8Gb of Ram A GTX 780/780Ti or the 900 series from nvidia (if you can find them used) or a 1050 Ti A ssd for Windows and a large (1Tb) hdd for storage A good psu A case with good airflow I suggest you to buy the SSD and the HDD new. If you need something more, just pm me and I'll answer you as soon as I can
Thank you so much for your help!! do you have an estimate of what the price would be? --- Post updated --- And what motherboard do you recommend?
Idk the real price but around 500/800€, it depends on what you want… You have to choose what cpu you want before thinking of the motherboard; overclockable or not? If you want overclockable then buy a Z77 or a Z87/97, if not a H77/87/97 or a B85. It depends on how much you want to spend. All of this is if you want to go on used market.
At the moment I don't have any budget, but I have to get the money myself. So around R8000-R20000 (455-1130 Euros) would probably be good starting point for me. --- Post updated --- Which motherboard is more expensive: overclock or non overclock?
Overclocking capable motherboards are always more expensive than the others. For 1000€ you can even buy a computer with new components, but they may not be high end, it's up to you. Pm me if you want, so we don't keep sending notifications to everyone involved in this thread
8th gen i3 K-version for overclocking, budget CPU, but it has fast core speed. Number of cores is not so important in BeamNG, as mostly you drive with one car or if you add more than 4 cars you start to be again limited by core speed anyway, so CPU with 4 threads is fine as long as one core is really fast. Most of the time though people tend to drive with one car, but if you like to drive with more than 3-4 then more cores will help, but only up to point. You can lower graphics to help CPU though, even 1050Ti runs game on normal quality just fine, but WCUSA is bit hard to run with 1050Ti @ 1080p So killing shadows and not using dynamic reflections allows much better performance with CPU that has more cores but core speed is less. You need to choose then what you want and what your budget will be, but even with 1050Ti fastest CPU can be bogged down by graphics if settings are very high. 2x4GB ddr4 is better than 1x8gb, and with budget build you will probably need to go for 8GB, but 2666Mhz Hyper-X or something faster might be what you want as in BeamNG memory speed also matters, at least somewhat. If building new, this still needs monitor, case, psu, keyboard, mouse, etc. You get to near 1000 even with cheaper build as total cost, but these should allow upgrading in a future quite well, with used components you can get similar performance for half the price. These are something that would work well for BeamNG. No SSD as that adds costs, it is nice, but going cheap needs cutting of corners somewhere and HDD just makes loading bit slower and little hiccups here and there. FPS is pretty much the same with it. Userbenchmark PC Build Comparison Baseline Bench: Game 42%, Desk 62%, Work 40% CPU: Intel Core i3-8350K €161 GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti €147 HDD: WD Blue 3TB (2015) €85 RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2666 C15 2x4GB €89 MBD: Asrock Z370 Pro4 €105 Total: €587 Alternative Bench: Game 70%, Desk 68%, Work 52% CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K €228 GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB €256 HDD: WD Blue 3TB (2015) €85 RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2666 C15 2x4GB €89 MBD: Asrock Z370 Pro4 €105 Total: €764 I started with i3-6100 without GPU and that did play this game kinda ok at lowest graphics, added 1050Ti and it allowed normal to high graphics, now I have 8086k and gtx1080, with overclock only few maps drop below 60fps on high details, but dynamic reflections are still bit much on most maps. I would rather have faster core speed than these all 12 threads for BeamNG, but there is not much options. 7700K is one CPU that I see often running quite good core speeds when overclocked, so when planning what to buy, upgrade path to that might be something to consider, difference between 8086k and 7700k is not very huge in practice as it is that core speed in BeamNG that matters and both perform quite close to same really. That 7700k would need Z170 or Z270 motherboard then, when looking used components, that could be one ok option with slower CPU at first, so one can get all parts and upgrading later with used CPU should be quite cost effective. i7 4790k could be another option to look upgrade path to, if not even buying that, it needs bit stronger PSU though, which can add to cost, but that too performs very well in BeamNG. AMD makes much smarter CPU choices, sadly BeamNG is not at least yet free of that core speed world of yesterday, so benefit of having more cores is not so good, but it is something one might consider, core speed is not that much slower and maybe in future with new UI and all that meaning of core speed becomes less, so for a budget build it is something worth considering. In a future it is more cores that will bring more speed anyway, we haven't seen huge leaps in single core speed in last 5 years or so, but multicore speeds have more than doubled I believe, software is going to be more threaded so with AMD one can get much more for the money at coming years, but for BeamNG, I'm not sure meaning of single core speed will dissappear. BeamNG is one of the heaviest games I know, oddly it is not really physics, but graphics that is hardest part and require relatively fast computer, but good part is that if computer can run BeamNG flawlessly, it will run anything. As age of 12, you might get some lawn mowing or similar small jobs which could help quite a lot to get better budget for a PC, doing such chores will be really good for later life as well, so it might be something worth considering.
Thanks for all your advice! I'm definitely going to do some mowing (I like doing it) For a start I'm definitely going to go with the powerful Core i3 setup for a beginning and later upgrade.
Thanks for your help and advice! I would for a start do some chores (I like mowing) and go for the faster i3 build for a start to upgrade it later.
