Why hasn't anyone tried to make an airbag system in Beamng Drive?

I'm surprised that nobody has tried to make an airbag system in Beamng Drive. I'm not talking about suspension. I'm talking about the steering wheel and passenger side. We have thought of almost everything else. And it's the one thing missing from a side by side comparison to a real crash test.

Adding airbags is highly complex, and in the mind of the devs not worth the effort. simple as that.

Yeah, I have wondered that too, I know it would be really hard.
That is probably the reason why no one has done it.
All I know is that the best modders here would have a tricky time doing it and the devs would probably take up the next year doing it.

I can think of multiple, relatively easy solutions for airbags.

Basic cloth simulation is possible. Spawning/despawning objects on trigger events is possible as well.

airbags are possible. Just an useless thing to have

Well, airbags would definately add bit more realism to the game, but knowing how much performance it would take to simulate them blowing up in a crash & then being deflated & looking "flat", it would be bit pointless...

There are no persons so seat belts and airbags are kinda pointless I guess?

    it would lag a LOT

But it would have an official feature that looks pointless without a mod feature that only adds a crash dummy, not even a human being.

BNG devs said that they weren't gonna consider safety options since pedestrians were never gonna make it in.

Ok, there are no people/dummies in the cars.

    So:

    - Airbags would deploy anyway. By the way, not every crash test involves dummies.
    - How is that a problem? Vehicles wouldn't drive without a driver, yet no one really minds...
    - There's no traffic either, yet we have horns and blinkers...

finally someone else pointing that out. thank you.

realism here, realism there, until the cars are driven by someone ill consider BeamNG a
    "magic simulator"... period.

If this were to be done to a BeamNG standard then it would drag the physics engine down a lot.
Look at the "pressure mat" and see how much glitching that can do and instabilities etc. Not to mention how much it can slow down the PC. Making 2 or more of these per vehicle would be beyond the limits of CPUs at the moment. And there is no point really anyway.

I'd LOVE to see airbags, even if they looked unrealistic at first. It helps with the overall realism. It feels weird when I crash an ETK, Sunburst, etc and no airbag comes out. Even the sensing could be simple. If the front end gets a certain amount of damage, front airbags deploy. If the side gets a certain amount of damage, side airbags deploy.

    I'm sorry, but.

I do agree that airbags would add something to the game, but it's been said that it can't be done. Too complicated is the reason I've heard.

It is a lot of coding and I have asked.

I read somewhere that the inflated mat was an experiment towards this. I believe that it is possible to scale that down, and deflate it, without much difficulty. As for sensing the time when a car crashes, that can't be too difficult, as the later ETKs have a 'Crash Detected, Engine Disabled' feature.

Therefore, a modder, (or possibly a developer) could create this, with an airbag stored in the steering wheel.

    Yes its possible
why has no one done it?
It would take SO much work and effort to do that not even the devs want to do it.
It would require hours of coding and experimenting

They would be really complex. Tons of nodes, and there would be glitches since you'd have to hide them somehow behind the dashboard. Don't get me wrong, it would be awesome to have them, but it's probably not going to happen.

but if you already have crash test dummies and even maps for it why not put airbags to make more sense in crash tests?

because the way beamng works, it would lag and be reallly REALLLY hard
