It's a bit quiet round here...still with me folks? What do we all think of the Miata sound about? It's pretty much ready for release now :).

Speaking of ready for release, I've been working on a VTEC engine sound :D. More specifically a B18C5 Honda engine from the early 90s which I think suits the Fiat Uno really well for a potential engine swap. It revs to 8600rpm and has that sound we all know and love from about 5k onwards :D. It's pretty much done, just need to make a torque curve accurate for it and same perhaps for the gear ratios, but other than that I think this sounds very nice in game (excuse the hooning around lol!):

Speaking of sounding nice...the game has real problem with V8s and I don't know why. It simply ruins the sounds for them unless they are very tightly within certain frequency ranges. I can't get the 67 Camaro sounds to come out sounding as they should at all...which is a let down, same for a 70 year old V8 as well it simply won't reproduce the sound in game properly and I have no idea why.

The game seems to REALLY like I4s though, every I4 i've done has sounded above 95% ish how it does directly from the sound files. It does alright with V6s as well which is good and of course, works good for Diesel sounds and 2-Cyl sounds as well.

I'm going to try a couple of V10s and V12s (old and modern versions) and see how they come out, until then, enjoy :).

Turns out after...something, no idea what I did or what happened but that I've managed to get the Camaro sounds sounding...pretty nice! Noisy as hell, but very nice!

So in this clip below we have two sounds, one is a C5 Corvette inspired V8 sound from page 5, and the second is the 67 camaro sound, which do people like more, or do you like them both, or none? Lol:

    C5:

    67:

Again I really like the sound of both so I may release both as a "classic V8s" mod for all current V8 cars so we shall see :). The 67 sounds I am using a stereo mixed sample for the exhaust note which I am unsure about using, I may actually swap out the entire "off throttle" samples with something more...angry? I'm not sure. Kinda like the same sorta thing with the C5 but a bit more clear sounding.

Either way these have come out rather nice, let me know what you all think as I'll release them tomorrow otherwise :). Along with the Miata sound and the VTEC sound too!

Well I have a little bias seeing as the 69 Camaro is my favorite car, but I think the Camaro sound sounds better for the classic muscle V8s :)

The 67 sounds very similar to FM4's "8n3_67cam_exh" sound bank. It was very rough and ear piercing but you did a great job to make that sound bearable! I can't get the C5 sound to load, in fact most of your video previews take a bit of luck to load but I am guessing it was the video host that is problematic. I have no problems with my connection, Youtube and other page loads fine but I can't get your video to load.

Yeah I've seen this happening, I only started using it because originally it was very quick to upload and play. Besides YouTube what other host would you suggest?

Aye that's the sample :), well actually it's a bit of a mash up. I'm using the B on load samples, and the L exhaust off samples with some heavy normalisation and other sampoes but they still need a bit of work.

I may make or source custom offload samples depending on what I can find or use as I do have some backups!

With the C5 sound I'll get another upload going :).

    EDIT

Check back on that post and see if that upload now works :).

Are the MX5 and VTEC videos loading properly? Otherwise i'll go through everything again and re-upload.

MX5 used to load once, but at the time I'm typing this post is not. VTEC never load on my end. C5 loads now, and I prefer the 67 for classic muscle.

It's kind of weird though, I found that Streamable works fine if I go to the site and upload the video directly there instead of using BNG forums' video uploader. When I use BNG forum video uploader the video won't always load/slow to load. Vimeo or Dailymotion might be a good alternative to YT.

A BMW M6 Racing I6I6 varie sound in this case being used on the great Pessima Pro Car mod :). I think this sounds pretty beastly with the Procar, especially with the pops and crackles, check it out:

May release this very soon/in the week too as it is pretty much good to go, will just need to fine tune the engine power a bit :D.

V6 or Inline-6? Sounds like Inline-6 to my ears. Very great sound by the way! I think you can also muffle+reduce the volume of the samples a bit and tame the idle and you got yourself a stock sounding I6.

I6, apologies :). Tame the idle? reduce the volume? NAH!

Well...sure :) may as well, although i wanted it especially noisy for the procar because the procar is fucking mad car anyway! Good fun though :).

Another sound sample :). This time, it's a Euro Truck engine from a Volvo FH, a more modern version for the Semi Truck :). This is only the exterior exhaust and exterior engine sounds sampled for onload and offload...there is SO MUCH MORE detail I could potentially add in the future if i can find ways to layer sounds without the FMOD engine exploding or blurring out the detail. This is details such as rattles, clattering of the exhaust pipes, open pipe sounds, BOV chuff from the huge turbos, chatter and flutter and much more. I believe there is ways to add more sound layers using the sbeam method, but as of yet i'm unsure how to do it via FMOD, if anyone knows anything let me know!

Here is is for now, excuse the end...clearly i don't know my clearence height haha .

Oh man I love your sounds! I can't wait for a good TDI sound. There's none available for beamng atm. You have a lot of potential, keep it up!

It's coming :). Still trying to find someone who has one or a transit or anything with an old sound 2.5L that's willing to record sounds for me, turns out it's rather hard xD.

I know, I've been looking for hours online and I'm unable to find a good sample. I have a VW Amarok in the workshop but the transmission is out so I'm unable to record anything right now. I was able to record the engine starter sound that fits perfectly with your Diesel Van mod, but it doesn't work anymore with 0.12 and the devs doesnt want to fix it. Sadly, we're back to zero, lol.

I've ran into an issue AGAIN where the damn samples in game don't sound anything like the raw ones recorded. I looked back at my old V8 samples of the 67 cam and can't see what I did differently to get them to sound so much better in game. The problem again is the mufflyness to the samples, they don't have the dirtiness of the 67 cam samples and i've even thought it was because the 67 samples are in mono rather than stereo, turns out that doesn't matter either xD.

If anyone is willing to help me bug test, let me know and i'll send the files over. There must be something i'm doing that i can't see in the jbeam or other files that is causing this issue.

I'd be willing to bug test :D But I totally get what you mean!! It's just as difficult with V6 sounds!! I've made only two good sounding V6 noises and they're still nothing like what I'm going for. It's really difficult to make a modern, growling V6 in this game.

    Progress alert!

It turns out, at least, from early tests, that the Mono 36KHz format works best with the game :). Sounds are virtually identicle in game as they are to the raw file format, hooray. Going forward, this may mean I can revisit and update some old difficult sounds, hopefully...

Later today I am going to upload a sample video of how I plan on possibly going forward with adding more sounds to the blend files, specifically, fan sounds and maybe even jake brake sounds to the Semi sound samples :). Basically, rather than layering the sounds in a program, I am just going to pepper the "sfxblend" file with additional samples from idle onwards. This way, with things like fans and very monotone sounds etc they should pitch blend without much fuss but if in doubt, as the things only rev up to 2400rpm max and 3600rpm for the racing varients, 1 file may do it, possibly 2.

So imagine the SFXBlend file for this example later today, looking a bit like this:

    [engine sounds off]
    -Jake500<
    *Fan Sound 500rpm

    /blah500rpm
    ...rpms
    /blah2000rpm

    -Jake2000<
    *End of fan sound 500rpm

    [engine sounds on]
    *Fan Sound 500rpm
    /blah500rpm
    +Rattle500-2000
    ...rpms
    /blah2000rpm

    *End of fan sound 500rpm

So, as I hope you can sort of imagine, the layout will get a bit crowed in the blend files but with the addition of a jake brake sound, fan sounds and even the odd specific idle to redline "diesel rattle" sounds, I am hoping i can cram the file with this sort of layout so it produces more varied and detailed sounds :).

Using the trucks as test beds and starting points is great because I only need to play with about 2500rpm max, rather than potentially upwards of 6k or 9k rpm which could get rather messy.

I'll upload a sample of a Diesel Scania truck sound with all these additions and let you see how it sounds with them all vs without them all and we can fine tune from there :).

I've just realised the method above is not going to work at all with the sfxblends2d method...hmm.

Going to have to request multi sample support in blend files otherwise my approach can't work. Damn.
