so if you start up the game, look in task manager/details find beamng drivex64 and check the priority its set too high. which makes it, obviously, take priority over everything set to a lower priority. which means chrome, discord, teamspeak will, if you have a lower end system or less than 16gb of ram, lag. my suggestion is that the devs release some patch to fix this.
please say if you have had chrome or something lag when you had beam open.

    thank you.

I like to close everything else when playing a game. I want all the PC's resources going into the game, otherwise I just close it. So to me this is a non-issue.

Probably the reason they do that is so you can get better game performance.

I didn't realize this happened, but if anything its a good thing. Complex games such as BeamNG are resource intensive so I'd rather it be running high priority anyways. It would make more sense for this to be a config option.

You don't need 16gb of RAM, in fact that has nothing to do with multitasking capabilities besides how much you can keep sideloaded; the only time memory will be an issue here is if you're already strapped for memory, as it doesn't raise it.
The priority effects the load priority, let's take the removal of net neutrality for an example- if you have paid to access places faster than most, you will interrupt everyone else in a lower priority, but take up the same amount of virtual space.
Besides, when you switch windows, windows automatically locks resources to that window to a certain amount, my fps gets cut in half when I switch windows.
I've been able to have 6 YouTube videos loaded, discord, 17 notepad++ tabs, and 8 windows explorer windows alongside beamng.drive (and I manually set beamng to an even higher priority than the default) with very little lag. I only have 8gb of RAM and a mid end system from 2016.

I normally play with nothing else open anyways, but sometimes I will play with internet explorer open. I don’t see too much of a drop but it can freeze at times (but that’s too be expected).

You want the game that you are much more likely to be using other than anything else running in your computer while its open to run worse just so that the things that you have running in the background while you are playing a game run better?

Ever heard of modding? That involves lots of multitasking, including running multiple windows explorer windows, specific programs, and a code editor. All that plus the game, but I still run the game at high priority. It doesn't slow anytanything else down because, like I said, windows automatically locks the resources when you change windows.

Ha I wish my internet would buffer that quick.
In all seriousness that takes quite a bit of power, "low-end rigs" as you say will not be able to do that smoothly.
