Will WCUSA ever be expanded?

    I agree 101%

    I love the racetrack, I love the length and the corners, especially the deceptive downhill corner right before the pits, but I wish the redwood forest and touge mountain specifically were bigger than they are. The forest had so much potential, I mean it's really well textured and the atmosphere is great, but it ends so soon. It's perfect for the ~45 seconds of spirited driving you can do in it.

    Agree. Although the motorsports park likely was added for career mode, it is extremely big, in fact, bigger than the city. The main issue with that prioritization is that racetracks are intended for RACING, which requires a number of vehicles, and having the map load a bunch of other stuff isn't exactly optimal for performance. In a perfect world, WCA would have expanded the forest, city, mountains, and suburbs into that area, and the motorsports park would be a separate map.

    However, I can say this. WCA will not be expanded size wise. The only addition to the map is making the bridge accessable with a tunnel on the island.

    But that race track has different grip at braking zones as well as at off the line you have lot less grip, that makes it really fun track to throw laps around.

    Redwood forest is area that is hardest for my hardware to compute, when I look to that direction or drive at redwood forest, I'm pushing limits of 1050Ti really.



    I think it was 2048, not sure how many objects that map uses though, I would think that they use forest brush to get around that limit.

    Big objects are a problematic as you can't really do efficient LOD, if you have 300m object and you are 100m away from that, other end is 450m away, how you going to switch to lower lods with that? Then comes popping issue, disabling rendering (or switching to simple two poly version) of 300m object will need quite long distance to avoid it popping on and off. It's impossible to do that kind of optimization.

    So it is always a compromise, but it would be interesting to know why not forest brush? There has to be some drawbacks to that too?

    Yeah there must be some reason to not use the forest brush, it may just be as simple as its easier to place the objects in blender than it is ingame with the forest brush.

    Forest brush does not allow for the precision and uniformity required in the map. Another issue is the hills on the map, and some of the buildings could not have been placed using forest brushes as they are on hills, and using the brush would likely end up with buildings at sloped angles.

    I don't understand, because I'm not a map maker, but I placed these two and I can move, rotate, scale them every way I want, just like any object. Of course there is additional step of putting object to forest brush, but currently it appears to me that precision could be achieved with forest brush too:

    I think there are other reasons than precision or then there is more to precision than I currently know of, map making is area I have not tested much, because for me ground height tends to change more than 5 meters with single click and also my accuracy is not better than 3 meters, it ends up just into huge mess.

    Are these forest tools, or are you manually placing trees via the object editor?


    The forest editor is a way to place a large amount of objects without hitting the torque3D limit (Forest counts as 1 object total), however objects CANNOT be manually manipulated, as you're basically painting with meshes using it.

    How should I know this stuff is really unknown to me, all I know, it says forest and there is thing that looks brush that I use to put it down there, then I can move it and I have no idea if that counts as an object or not, I'm that good :D

    There is then Utah greybrush and I can spawn lots of these things by clicking fast with the mouse:

    I can move those too.

    Then there is example forest brush with example element, but it does nothing:

    Those are at gridmap by default, I'm unable to add things to those brush tools, haven't seen wiki page or tutorial of how that is done, there might be such, but haven't really had time to look into that.

    i hope not, i would like to see the map cut into 4-5 pieces/separate maps for better fps. MY computer is good but not good enough for 2 cars on ok settings and recording a video. I want to make videos on that map but cant because its to big. :/
