Re: (RELEASE 1/25) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Just to clarify, this is not a complaint. This is just some thoughts i have had for a while now. One issue i find with most cars in this game (and 1-2 rigs of rods cars with an actual power curve setup) is the fact that the power curve feels too high, especially on the vehicles intended to have a manual transmission. I can totally see this happening in a race car, or even a sports quad...but almost every single car in a game? Wouldn't the power curve be stuck around 2-4 grand (an average depending on the car) instead of the common 5-6 i find in most cars? Someone ought to AT LEAST make a version of some car with the option to use a engine and transmission combination set to the car model's proper power curve for those trying to fully enjoy simulator driving with a wheel, and save the 5-6 grand power curves for the keyboard surfers and race cars. This sounds like a complaint, yes, but really I am just bringing up something that could be adjusted to more properly fit the driving spirit of BeamNG, and even other driving simulators of whatever sort.
Re: (RELEASE 1/25) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Actually, the power curve on the 1.8 16V is quite high up in the RPM range. Peak power comes at 5800RPM, and it doesn't start making appreciable power until around 4000RPM (on the real car at least). I have noticed that this version is quite slow though, not sure why. Fun to rip around in though
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI What's ironic is that i am looking for one as my first car...i could not remember the name until now. Was it the health of the car or just the way the car was designed that made it a piece of junk? I really would like to know.
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI As long as you can find an example in solid shape and are comfortable with doing your own maintenance and learning about how the car works, they are a blast I realize I may be biased, having been around these cars for much of my life. If you just want something that will start every day and get you from point A to point B with no fanfare, buy a Honda. Not to say these can't be reliable when taken care of, but the newest examples are now 22 years old. Just something to keep in mind.
Re: (RELEASE 1/25) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI 2-4k power band your only going to achieve on a high revving diesel. A petrol engines power band is usually fairly high. The 1 litre in my corsa I think is 3.5k through to 5k before screaming rather loudly and giving up at 6k, although with it being a 1 litre its power band might aswell be compared to a wet fart.
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI I can guarantee that any hatchback from this era will behave roughly the same if not worse in such a crash test. Mk2 Golfs were one of the safest and best built hatchbacks of their era, they won the car of the year award in 1985(2 years after it came out). If they were really that dangerous compared to competitors, that wouldn't have happened. In fact, apparantly they were safe enough for VW to put a different bodyshell on the same basic platform multiple times: The mk3 Golf and mk2 Jetta use the A3 platform which is derived from the A2 platform that the Mk2 Golf uses. Then the Polo 6N/6KV, Ibiza 6k, VW Caddy Van and a bunch of other cars are on the A03 platform, which is basically a smaller version of the same old A3 platform. The Caddy Van was sold until 2003, and the Polo and Ibiza were sold with only minor updates until 2002... You can make any car look bad in a crash-test, if you punt it into a wall at the right speed, at the right angle So uhh, @ 0-60, when are you gonna correct all the shading issues? :/ Rear wheelarch, parts of the crease in the side, the crease around the sidewindows, the shapes in the hood, parts of where the rub-strips meet the body are still soft-shaded when they should be hard-shaded. Would look so much better when the shading is correct :/ Also, there are a lot of polygons that have the wrong material: rubbers that go from the bottom of the a-pillar to the rear of the roof, the top and bottom of the bump-strips on the doors, all that kind of stuff :/
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI I'm not sure what you mean by shading issues. I took a look at those areas and didn't really see anything. I did fix the material issues though (I think). I'll update the first post with the link.
Re: (RELEASE 1/29) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI It took me about 2 months. However, since it was my first mod, I spent a lot of time experimenting and starting again. If I did it again with the knowledge I currently have, I could probably make it in 2 weeks. I've been working on a Toyota Hilux for myself. Since I'm not doing detailed UVs for the interior and suspension, it shouldn't take more than a week.
Re: (RELEASE 1/29) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Nice update, and I love the green color. One small issue, the rear end, when treating it as a demo derby car (reverse smashing lol) the rear hatch barely deforms, however the rest of the rear crumbles inwards. Maybe address the rear jbeams a little, or at least the hatch. and the Parcel shelf kinda gets glitch, the first reverse bomb into a wall and the shelf turned into a few sharp black triangles. Otherwise great update, much has improved over the initial release
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Golf is a deathtrap compared to the Polonez, which was made in 1978. 50 km/h, solid crash barrier. Now, what conditions was that Golf tested in?
Re: (RELEASE 1/29) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Hey does anyone Beamng Crash when the open the newer version of the golf?
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI The Golf was crash tested at 64 Km/h (40 Mph) at a 40% overlap. The conditions for the Golf were far more severe.
Re: (RELEASE 1/29) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Very grammar bud I really am having a hard time figuring out what this means... EDIT I think what he meant to say was "Hey guys! Does BeamNG crash for anyone else when you select the newer version of the Golf?" No, not for me...what does it do when you select it? The game shuts off?
Re: (RELEASE 1/29) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Yeah it shuts off the orginal version seems to work fine but not the new one it just gives me the crash message
Re: (RELEASE 1/29) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Love your Golf. For the moment it's a car I play the most and keep the awesome work going.
Re: (RELEASE 1/29) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Hi there! Love the look of that model and I'm downloading it now! Any chance you could tell me which map is in the 3rd picture? (With the hairpin bend) Thanks - Herobane View attachment 17439
