Can't wait till they fix the bug. Dunno if it's in T3D or the Rift SDK itself.

I could just imaigine playing this with my steering wheel and a rift.

I'm planning on getting the Oculus VR dev kit in mid-late spring. It was either that or a low-end 4K monitor.

I'm probably going to get shit for liking Sword Art Online, my brother thinks that is why I want the Oculus.

If you buy the dev kit because you liked SAO, you are probably going to be disappointed. You will have to wait for a while if you want to have that AAA MMORPG experience. First, all the current vr games are either demos or small indie games. So you won't get a polished vr MMO anytime soon. Second, the Rift is not ready yet. You can hardly read text, the screen is blurry, the resolution is crap and you will likely get motionsickness of it. And even if you get no motionsickness, it feels really uncomfortable to use the dev kit for more than a few minutes. Trust me, I have it for a few months now.

The dev kit is nice, but if you aren't a hardcore vr enthusiast, a collector or a game dev, I highly recommend you to wait at least for the conusmer Rift.

Not the point. I meant that my brother thinks I want one because of SAO.

I understand the technology, Oculus is suppose to give you control of and in-depth first-person view, relying on gyros and special screens to simulate.

NervGear is supposed to hi-jack the brainwaves of the user and simulate them in a VR world, rendering normal body functions useless.

    Oculus-
    -relies on movement

    NervGear-
    -relies on brain activity

I also understand that VR games like Sword Art and Alfheim are far away, but we just recently made significant leaps and bounds in tech and games. The largest games until like 2010 were MMOs and Sandbox games (GTA Series), but recently we made a huge step in the amount stored in a game. GTA V is over 30 Gigs, 40 for BF4, and all of the Xbox One/PS4 games that I've seen/played have been over 30 Gigs.

I know there is a ton I am leaving out, but I just did exams, I'm pooped.

Well, if the problems of the dev kit don't matter too much to you, than you will have a wonderful time with the Rift.

It is not an underestimation that it will blow your mind as long as you expect a prototype and not a finished product.

Especially the 3D and the scale of the virtual world neverer cease to amaze me.

You can get a feel of how the screen looks like if you look at this picture with a few centimeters away from the screen: http://i1.wp.com/www.roadtovr.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/oculus-rift-team-fortress-2-render.png

I've followed the rift for so long, if I had bought the devkit when it first when public, I would have got a lot of good use out of it.

But now, hearing all the progress that's been made since devkit 1, I'm definitely waiting for the consumer product. Their latest prototype blows the devkit out of the water and I'm sure the consumer version will be so much more enjoyable and steam-lined than even their current proto.

I would like to combine Oculus rift, kinect, and a racing steering wheel to make a proper car driving sim where while in the oculus rift the kinect animates are movement for the steering wheel and shifter and all you need to do is set up your shift and steering wheel to match the in game car or just use paddle shifters and play that.. That sounds like perfection to me.

The steering wheel is already inputting position information to the computer though so why the kinect? BeamNG even does what you just asked for.

The kinect just for small reasons. So you can see your hand movements in game. Calibrate the size of your wheel in comparison by holding your wheel or something and then play. So while your wearing the oculus you can move your arms and hands around and be able to see it in the oculus.

    Hey

I've had an Oculus Rift for a while now I've even developing a game with it but that's beside the point. I've also had BeamNG.Drive for a while to and i was wondering if there was Oculus support and found this Thread that said it was disabled "DISABLED" so it was still there. so i decided to go and look around in the scripts and i discovered some stuff.

    first of all
you can enable Oculus rift mode by hitting "`" button next the the one key to bring up the console then type in "enableoculusvrdisplay" without the quotes this enables the Oculus with the stereo BUT. BIG BUT for instead of duplicating the screen twice, 1 for each eye its duplicated 4 times 2 for each eye. also there is no head tracking.

if anyone could get any further to getting it working post it \

    interesting code i found
    (Im referencing this directory "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive-0.3")
first of all the main oculus script (i think)
    Directory: "core/scripts/client/oculusVR.cs"

    also
    Directory: "main.cs" lines 42 - 51 and 62 - 63
    Directory: "scripts/clients/prefs.cs" line 27
    that's all i found

Hey I have an oculus rift, and I'm dying to use it with this game. I'd be happy to give feedback, and all that. How do I get it to work?

So, since the dev kit 2 is open for preorder, and I just preordered one, I was wondering is the Oculus support being brought back till sometime round july?

Will it be implemented to the race update or some later update?

As much as i would love to see that , i would also like to see the race update some time soon :p

But even though i don't own a rift (yet, waiting for consumer release) i would love to see this added just because it would be epic to see all the rift touting YouTubers have minor heart attacks when they loose control of the bolide at high speed and go straight into a tree.

But i doubt true rift support will be added soon since it isn't mission critical to creating a driving sim, as well as only benefiting a very small margin of players.

Maybe then the devs should work together with the small margin of players who own a rift dk2 then, to make a better Rift experience?

also don't own a rift (waiting on consumer version, leaving the dev kits for, well, devs) but would be awesome to see rift support re-enabled (mostly because while i wait for a consumer version, to watch youtuber's that have a rift have heart attacks when crashing into a tree or something, hehehehehehehe)

Well Facebook just bought the oculus rift's company... Honestly kinda pissed. Its going to be an advancement in social media and vr technology said the main guy behind Facebook. So yeah I'm happy I didn't buy a dev kit and I was considering it.. Some may think ohh they have all this money now its going to take off... I think this project is just going down the shitter. I'm nerd pissed... I was really wanting to get one some day. I personally think Google glass would've done this all just fine lol.

Yes, I am quite enraged at this development. I need a cookie.

Notch has cancelled all affiliations with the Occulus as of this announcement. They were working together to have it work in Minecraft, but not anymore...

    so... trackIR support then?

Yeah I read about that. Notch pretty much explained it perfectly.

    "
Facebook is not a company of grass-roots tech enthusiasts. Facebook is not a game tech company. Facebook has a history of caring about building user numbers, and nothing but building user numbers. People have made games for Facebook platforms before, and while it worked great for a while, they were stuck in a very unfortunate position when Facebook eventually changed the platform to better fit the social experience they were trying to build.
