very nice, though switchmode v linear, surely depends on requirements ;)
    Linear for audio, always linear.

Switchmode is always the best for being given electric shocks by AC whenever touching any "grounded" metal connected to it...

    I HAVE A JOB!!!!!
I'm going to be doing computer teardowns and potentially other refurbishing work for a global OEM computer manufacturer. I'm going to have so much fun!

that isnt to do with switching v linear :p That sounds like something with dodgy grounding which can happen irrespective of the DC-DC regulator

well lets hope that global OEM isn't Apple, since you will need to un-glue basically everything :p

It just happens to happen on nearly all of them :p

To be honest I am mostly moaning about 99% of USB wall chargers, they are never grounded and as such the metal jackets of USB connectors can sometimes give you a surprise, since they are usually live at around 12v AC at a super ultra low current.

If I have metal IEM's plugged into my phone, the around 1mm contact patch to the inside of my ear can make it feel like I am being burned and cause irritation if left long enough. This is across many brands of charger.

That's why with every device I own, I make sure that it's properly grounded, or modified to be grounded, don't fancy being a grounding cable for voltage especially if it's 240v... Granted the MCB would probably trip before death but even a little shock hurts like hell and makes you produce some interesting distress calls...

Dont do that with all devices though. Theres a reason certain devices are floating, like oscilloscopes

Most cheap wall warts arent switching supplies, theyre flyback converters. Switching versus linear electrically doesnt make any difference to the DC grounds as the input and output on both are common ground with no isolation or level shift

Well depending on the design I don't always add a ground, after all some devices do have live chassis, mostly old tube stuff.

I second that I've seen so many laptops and other devices that have had the arse end blown out of 'em because they lack proper isolation and the B+ rail became live at mains voltage when something on the primary side decided to pop.
