I am getting very bad lag and performance out of Beam. I just bought Drive. I know I have a bad computer, (see signature), and on the Grid Map level in a Covet, I get about 15 FPS. The worst I've seen is 5 FPS in the Cabster, and it bothers me. Is there any way I can at least get better performance, without getting a new PC? My specs are:

    Intel Pentium B960 @ 2.2 GHz
    Intel HD Graphics
    4GB 1333 MHz SODIMM RAM
Also, all of the settings are on Lowest, but with the AF at 16x.

If I need a new PC, this is what I'm getting. (on a budget)

I'm pretty sure your CPU is quite weak, and you have integrated graphics paired with it. Not a winning combination...

2.2 ghz should be plenty to run BeamNG. I've underclocked to lower than that as a test and it ran fine.

But I agree integrated graphics will be bad for BeamNG.

There is always Rigs of Rods if you don't have the GPU for BeamNG.

Step one: Buy a new computer. You could get a decent APU for cheap like I did.

Or you could try turning all the settings to lowest, turning off postfx, and playing in a smaller window.

Not gonna lie, your specs are awful. Reducing the size of the game window, turning off PostFX, and setting graphics to lowest will improve FPS until the CPU becomes the bottleneck.

My old laptop has roughly the same specs as your system, yet manages a solid 40FPS on Grid Pure with a Covet in a 640x480 px window.

On my pc I have it on and DxTory says I get 60fps or higher but I dont run anything like Post FX on so I donno if that counts..

on my bros pc I have everything turned on and at the max and I get from 133fps to almost 200fps without a frame drop...I guess since its a newer machine it wont be effected...

$140 dollars for the apu and i'm not sure what ram you're getting but if it's super fast mega woohoo ram for your apu's graphics that will put you farther down. Get an fx 6300 and something like a 7770 (am3+ motherboard. idk if that was obvious or not :p)

or get an athlon x4 7xx if you feel like going with fm2, but get an fm2+ motherboard so you can upgrade later

oh and check out reddit.com/r/buildapc people there do a lot of good 400-500 dollar budget builds and find sales and rebates a lot

Don't worry, the devs have improved performance up to 25% for the next update :)

yay, he'll get like 7 fps now. That is if his problem is with the cpu and not the gpu though

for me that might be noticeable I found the FPS metre after a few months and it says in game I have 25fps when DxTory says I have 60fps...but meh I donno...might have to look into that then..

Really slow CPU with integrated graphics = Not gaming.

That PC might be good for internet browsing and checking email, but that's it.

If you'd like to buy that PC you posted there, I'd like to say: You do not have a dedicated VGA Card in that config. Even if the integrated Radeon in the A10 6800K CPU is much faster than the Intel HD of the i7 4770k, it is still not very fast. It will improve your Performance, of course. But please don't expect High FPS on this System in higher Graphics. BeamNG is very CPU demanding, but i woul not say it doesn't need no GPU Power at all.

    @derbymutt
Don't forget, that the CPU Frequency is not everything that counts. A brand new i-Processor will be much faster than that B960, if both would be running at 1Ghz. The combination of Clock Speed and the instructions, that can be handled and computed in every single clock cycle is important :) . And i'd say, the actual CPUs are about 50% faster at the same clock. Maybe more, maybe less, i can't tell :) .

Another thing to keep in Mind: BeamNG uses Multicore atm, but not really when just driving around with one car. It makes use of multiple cores, when there are multiple cars.

I'm running an AMD 6 Core @6.0Ghz OC. No issues for me at all.

My old ATI GPU used to limit fps drastically, let alone the fact that my tower was covered with dust inside.

I've cleaned that out and mounted a new NVidia GPU and can easily get 100+fps on the stock graphics settings in BNG on any map.

@the stuff you said, I know all that anyways. :p

From what I can see there your laptop is telling you its having a major fit unless you remove all the vegetation from the maps which I did to get better FPS your laptop's CPU will self destruct!

Okay :) Wasn't ment to teach you, I just didn't want other people, that might not have such a good knowledge of PCs, think that everything that counts is the Frequency. Maybe I missunderstood you, sorry for that ;) .
The Dust thing is of course totally right, when Temps reach high limits, the components will start throttling and underclocking to prevent damage. Its always good to keep the PC clean.

If I may ask, what was your old ATI ? And which NVidia do you have now? :)
And why does your system spec show 212GB RAM? :D

And yeah :D A 6 core at 6Ghz will rock like hell , why not? xD I'm on a i7 4770k , it makes me happy, too :D

you might try one of the grid maps, your fps so shoot up, as then the gpu of your laptop, doesnt have to render all that vegeatation (personally, i think there should be an option in the graphics options, that allows you to lower the vegetation and/or disable, as well as a igpu mode (also, before anyone says anything, i basicly mean, it adds a bunch of fog, like the Render Distance option in minecraft) (option, as in, if you think your igpu can handle it, you dont HAVE, to have it in igpu mode)

So...it's a laptop which means the specs you have in it are harder to upgrade. You can't put a graphics card in it because A. there's no space and B. I'd be uber surprised if there was a PCI-express port.

The specs are just not favorable for playing video games. Best for browsing and watching youtube vids maybe

Even if you had a cheap cheap desktop, you would still have the ability to add at least a graphics card for a low price. I just put a 2GB solution in mine for 49 dollars :)
