Hey, so after a long time not modding, I came back and tried to do export a normal map with GIMP (already have before), but this time when exporting, GIMP is always crashing.

Which wasn't happening before, I've installed the lastest version and checked that the addons for DDS and Normal Maps were the lastest too, but still crashing.

Some infos :I had to do the "normal map-ping" in Paint.net because GIMP wasn't detecting lines ? It was just not doing anything, but still had to export with it for a correct DDS compression. ( and again, GIMP disappoints. )

Is someone having same problem ?

I don't have Photoshop and it's very likely that I won't after what Adobe did..

I'm pretty sure that a problem with the .dds exporter plugin. You could try to import a .dds in gimp and I guess it'll throw an error message at you too

I have gimp crashing on one of my computers too, but the other computer running gimp 2.8.10 has no issue working with .dds on my side. I guess the dds addon hasn't been updated and something in the more recent updates of gimp broke it.
So you could maybe try installing gimp 2.8.10 or previous ? https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gimp/v2.8/windows/

I thought too it could be because the dds exporter is not compatible anymore with GIMP, getting an older version might fix it, thanks for the idea I'll try tomorrow. :)

I've been running GIMP 2.8.16 for god-knows-how-long and I've never had an issue with the dds addon.
Of course GIMP isn't exactly known for being the most stable program, but I personally haven't had an issue with my setup.

Yep, going to an older version fixed it. ^^ I just took the 2.8.16 one as I knew months ago it was working and my version wasn't old, in case you wanna update and still see it working.

Thanks, might be great to update sometimes, just updated to 2.8.16 with no issues from the dds and the normal map plugins
According to the release dates, it has been more than 3 years since I've ever updated gimp (in this case, installed it) !
