Do static objects, like tree, absorb any force?

    Do collision objects absorb any force?

    I have a question about the way BeamNG drive handles collisions with static objects. I thought of this after reading many posts that claim the cars bounce off the objects they hit way too much. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the physics of BeamNG and I love it. However, I notice most people use the trees when they explain bouncing off being wrong. I've seen the devs say that they bounce off because there is only so much force that can be absorbed and that is why you bounce, which is physically accurate. However in real life a tree is also going to absorb some force by deforming and thus not making the car bounce off as much. Does this game simulate the object being hit absorbing any force? Or are all objects treated as 100 percent solid objects with no give? I understand this is beta and that very well may be added in later and I am not criticizing the physics engine but am just curious how it works as of now.

    static objects as far as I know are 100% rigid and solid. If you made a jbeam for an object it would not be that way though

    Correct me if I am wrong but an easier way to state this is:
    The engine realistically simulates the object I hit. Visually I am hitting a tree, But on the physics side I am hitting a 100 percent rigid mass.

    Ok so can you technically say they do bounce further than in real life, BUT it's only because the impact object is 100% solid. Meaning hitting a tree now doesn't produce a real life bounce, BUT it's not an error in the engine because the tree isn't simulated like a real life tree. I just want to be clear I'm not criticizing the way the engine simulates impacts to static objects.

    Actually a better way to put it: The game perfectly simulates for the object it hits. Visually I may be hitting a tree, In the physics I'm hitting a completely rigid mass.

    Yes, that is correct. For now. There are already some props with bendy characteristics but they still don't bound properly during collisions. All is being worked on.
