Does beam really run all that better on a desktop?

I have a laptop, fairly highend (lenovo ideapad y700, top of the range) and i get 20 fps on low. Could i build a pc for under 1000$ that could acheive 30 to 40 fps on mid settings or better on large maps?

 

I have a Y700 as well, and it runs well on most maps. Try disabling or lowering the quality of Dynamic Reflections, and make sure that the power is connected.

 

Done that already. What graphics card do you have?

 

my setup:
intel i-7 3770k
EVGA 1070 sc (with about a 150 mhz overclock)
16 gig 'o ram

i get about 60 frames solid up to about 7 cars on max graphics (dynamic reflections even work on gridmap and ecusa with a low amount of cars)

The actual form of your computer doesn't matter. Beam doesn't check if your computer's portable. What matters is your specs. There are some laptops that are better than desktops, and vice versa.

 

i built it so long ago that i dont have an exact number, but if i had to guess it would be around 1,300 CAD.

while you are right on the first half of the statement, a desktop of the same cost as a laptop will outperform said laptop 99% of the time

I'm on a laptop with 4gb of RAM, a 2.6ghz i7 4510u, and an ndidia 840m. It runs a solid 20fps on JRI, easy 40-50 on Gridmap with multiple vehicles.
I got it second hand for 300-and-something AUD.

 

WHAT! HOW!?!?

It runs fine with 200 FPS with 100 cars on Tennessee.

 

Hmmm. Maybe somethings screwing up as i have a radeon r9 with 16gb of ram.

Scratch that. r7 with 8 gb. What should i be expecting from low settings?

 

R7 is just a model family encompassing suckiness to alright
