    Hi All,

New to BeamNG and the forums.

After seeing BeamNG and playing the tech demo way back in 2013, I almost forgot that the game existed. 5 days ago I happened across a video on youtube and it sparked my interest. Of course, I followed youtube's recommended links down the rabbit hole and after a few hours of watching people smash cars and build levels, I decided to buy it. I'm very glad I did.

I started playing with the level editor a few days ago and this happened:

Basically, I couldn't resist making my own terrain. I probably went around doing it the long way but I'm fairly happy with how the level editor works, minus the few bugs and the horrid way you have to setup a level to begin with. Once over that hump, I've had a great time. I was pretty sick with the flu for the past 2 weeks so this has been a fantastic diversion from being sick.

I'm not sure if it's worthy of uploading the level to the Mods section or not as, to be honest, I haven't even loaded more than a couple of levels so, I'm not too clued up on the standards.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be tidying up and prettifying details as well as:
    • Modelling a few basic signposts for the designated trails and importing them (no idea how to import yet. pointers welcome)
    • Adding a detailed rock crawler area
    • A small jumps section
    • A lakeside/pond area
    • An expanded river system with crossings
    • Thinking about adding a higher speed section of the outer parts of the island/terrain
    • Get rid of a few bugs at loading based on a missing DAE file. Seems to be part of the East Coast, USA map I used as a base to get started. I think it came about at the start when learning the painting tools.
I also need to learn how to add mud. I remember reading that it requires a depth map but beyond that, I'll need to research it. I presume it should be towards the end of the terrain development. If that's the case, making changes to the terrain might get messy? Pointers welcome here too.

Anyway, thanks for looking and for any suggestions or pointers.

    Ben

Looks pretty sick man. Hope this map actually gets finished unlike most cool things on BeamNG. It might just be the video but it looked like the whole map has a tan overlay. Made it kinda look "old". Was that post editing or how the map actually looks?

Thanks, mate. That's how it actually looks. No post processing was done. I played with the sun and the light for a while. Not sure I'm 100% happy with it but it'll do right now. I was aiming for more of a sunrise orange cast but it just started looking cartoonish and I pulled it back.

Can't wait for you to upload this, looks really good! Been looking for off roading maps like this for a while, do you have a possible release date/time we could download this?

    Hi Aaron,

No idea yet. Sorry. Hopefully, I can get a version out this week. Currently working on the mud track now. I still need to figure out why I'm getting missing DAE files on load. When I've got that sorted, I'll get a version out.

Here are a few screens of the mud track as it stands now.

Will there be a rock bouncer bounty hill on it?

You'll have to forgive my ignorance here but, what do you mean by "bounty hill"?

I have a couple small rock crawling sections now. I plan on making this one a crawl to the top:

Look up rock bouncers and look at the hills. rockbouncerhill1.jpg Something like that. Or look at one of Madram11's rock bouncer videos.

    Ahh yup. That'd fun. :)

Can you recommend a BeamNG vehicle for me to play with and start thinking about course?

Definitely use @Darren9's Outlaw rock bouncer. Page 5 of the thread, called DH Outlaw. You will find it at the bottom of the vehicle menu. It is based off of one of the coolest real-life rock bouncers ever.

So do you think you can make a bounty hill?

Unfortunately, DH Outlaw sets fire to itself on spawn. :( Fuel tank explodes.

I drove it a bit and it was fun but far too annoying driving a car on fire for any length. Is there a known fix for it?

Are you sure that you aren't using the DW Rock Bouncer? The link to the Outlaw is https://beamng.com/threads/dh-outlaw.39604/page-5. Look towards the bottom.

I think you're right. Pretty sure I was using the wrong one. I give it a go.

this looks very promising! is this your first map? if so you have a gift of talent! :D
maybe a rock crawling segment like this, which is relatively flat but covered in trees and rocks?

also maybe a big deserty section of the map like this, with jumps and rocks and sand?

Okay... I think I've got enough done to ask if someone can test it. It seems to have packaged up OK. I almost lost the whole thing in the process. Luckily I had some backups as I knew it might happen. Anyone want to try it out for me. PM me. Looking for 5 - 10 people to let me know how it works.

Here is where I'm up to:
    • Added a medium length rock crawling area (not sure how good it is)
    • Added a mud trail (See screenshots)
    • Added a lot of plants and trees
    • Redid some textures (mostly out of necessity after breaking the map)
    • Added spawn points for each of the trails. Default one is Ridgedige
    • Added thumbnail previews for the selecter menu
    • Finished off secret location (Paradise). Though, if you cheat via the map, you'll figure it out, I'm sure

    --- Post updated ---
Well, two people are in. I'll let them give it a try and make sure it loads - If that goes well, I'll continue to let people test for a bit

Feel free to PM alpha/beta maps (I check several times a week to this site), I will test and return infos.
Missing .DAE's are the result of you not changing the model paths for the forest brush properly from /East_Coast_USA/ to /whateveryourmapiscalled/ (obviously, you know what it is, I do not), take screenshots with F12 steam key for screenshot, and use notepad++ to search for that model name. When it finds it, replace the /East_Coast_USA/ (if that's what it's WRONGLY called), with /yourmapname/ replacing that with the correct directory, keep the slashes on both fields to avoid replacing things erroniously.

Also, feel free to steal any and all of my road textures you wish to have from Nevada Interstate, So-Cal Interstate, and Roane County Tennessee, they're there for any Beamng.drive map modder/creator.

Your map looks very nice & hope it is seen to completion. We can always use talented modders for maps who can stomach the editor's current state. Save, save often, and if mucking about with the config .cs files, DO make a backup of the level structure, just incase it gets crash-happy.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't seem to be getting email notifications for this thread for some reason.

Really appreciate the offer for textures, etc.

I sorted out the missing textures. Hopefully :)

I'm uploading a version to the mod section, its currently waiting for approval. Have a hit at it if it goes through.

By the way, love the look of your work.

Merged into this for ease ;)

    Neat map by the way.
I suggest using these settings for your sun shadows, as the current ones are very pixelated imho.

texSize is up to you. I suggest 1024.
logWeight is 0.98 by the way, in picture is not much visible.

Feel free to use me as a beta tester. Daily player, check here every other day, and I also do a good bit of 4x4'n in my chevy silverado.
