Same, except this could bring in some extra $$ for me and it would be a big motivation to work faster on my mods.

I do agree that creators should get paid but I don't think we should not pay up front. For example, if you are updating a mod, you have to pay for it again, so how would that work. I think that mod creators should just get paid by choice, by Paypal or Patreon or something, because there are too many great mods so it would cost a lot just to get some. Also the mod creators still have lives they still go to work and go to school and get money from that (I hope so). Also for donations you can donate much more quantities of money than most people go for anyway so donating is not a bad idea.

same deal for me. although i don't think my mods deserve to get me any money (or my skill) but i think there should be just a donation button. not you have to pay for it unless it is like literally 10 vehicles made by 2 people.

That sounds like unnecessary work. Just link a PayPal or other link for donations in the post. Several modders already do that

    Since you wonder my vote.
Note that's just my personal opinion, not biased by the fact I work for BeamNG, nor should be taken as official words. Just my honest opinion

I'm not a fan of the paid mods that they tried for Skyrim for example. That leaves a lot of empty spaces. As somebody said, things like mod support (IE. What if the mod breaks?) and alike have a question mark on with that. That was implemented poorly generally.

That's what I'd say yes for:
    https://www.beamng.com/threads/kickstarter-kind-of-mod-funding.36136/

A Kickstarter like thing, where you basically vote for a mod, and then the author gets hired in order to work on it and keeping it functional for the future as well.
You would get an high quality mod at the end, at what should be an accessible sum.
(Not like some low quality, joke mod as seen on Skyrim when they tried)
Basically what's written in that thread I linked above.

[somebody mentioned what if the mod breaks with an update. Do I need to remember that at this stage (alpha), stuff are more prone to break than in a final release, where major changes won't be a (common) thing? Anyhow, part of that Kickstarter thing also includes post-release support]

The poll in this thread is way too generic.
    Just my two cents.

I've donated $150 to modders I felt deserved my appreciation for their outstanding work and ability to handle the varying levels of community
interaction in a professional manner. Indeed a very personal and selective decision for anyone thinking about donating. This is one of the reasons
why merely donating will never work as an 'income' model.

I voted yes because I would like to see quite a few good modders around here receive something important and tangible for their efforts.
Doing this right will take time and patience and I feel in the end it will happen.

I am for paid mods, but with quality control - I don't think that things like config packs, or skin packs should be paid, unless they are top notch, and huge - I more think that things like the ETK S Series (Just an example), could be paid mods, (just a couple of pounds), because of the huge effort that went into it.

If mods were to be paid, they should go for only $0.50. If you think about it, most good mods have upwards of 50000 downloads. That's 25 grand!
The only way I'd ever vote Yes is if the wiki was updated and more intuitive. I've been trying to get into vehicle mods, but I just can't learn enough via the wiki.

I see a lot of potential problems with mod support and paid mods. Later today you'll get my rant, just not now.

lol, dude. You would need your parents to get the money off any site legally (not reward points or steam codes, talking real money).
If you have time, please elaborate. Why throw it off like that when we haven't even tried it? What hurt does it cause to you or the company by having a donation system, not a forced one, but one all volunteer based? A website that comes to mind is nexusmods (Skyrim, Fallout, etc mods). Nothing is forced on the user, the button is there for those who think the mod goes above and beyond.

Any mature creator will understand that the platform can't be used for steady, regular income. Rather, a few extra dollars out of the blue one morning is always a welcome sight. It doesn't have to be much either, say a $3 minimum.

@Everyone, my opinion TL;DR: No to paid mods. Yes to a volunteer based donation system.

I think that a volunteer based Donation system would be awesome. Mods as a job would be about as stable as painting or owning a restaurant. :p

I tried that when I was in need of a new HDD (Talking about years ago)
I put a donation link under one of my mod, and offered some bonuses to who donated, such as WIP or Unreleased mods of mine.
With 5k downloads, I got one true donation (Thank you again <3), and then a joke donation (literally a cent). Was not enough for a new HDD, but you get the point probably.

5$/10$ donations you can count on the fingers of one hand vs more people pledging a few cents/dollar for a mod, the latter seems a more reasonable choice.

Also, on that kickstarter thread, one of the main point is this:
    • We put some money in the bowl for the author to work on it. Later on, we'll allow you to put your money in.
"We" is BeamNG (unless I mis-interpreted that phrase)

If I got 50 cents per download on my mod, I'd be able to pay off my student loan debt lol. I like the kickstarter system proposed by @tdev though. It lets the modder make money while still allowing full community access to the mod.

That seems like a good idea but would be a risky investment, company wide. People can make themselves look promising then run with the money. It's excellent internet-aged business.

Also, like I said before, us mature enough can understand that you won't be able to have a steady and reasonable income from donations. At least at this state of the game (pun unintended), having a large financial goal with donations as the funding medium would be foolish and wouldn't lead to anything.

Also also, as said previous, a minimum would need to be put in place. I suggested $3 but $1 would be reasonable still. That would potentially allow more people to donate. Quantity over quality there (more people donating less = more than less people donating more unless they drop $1000 on you :p)

I should stop defending my 'platform'. Donations won't happen.
