So my sister has a clevo laptop coming, it's the N850hn with i3 7100H and Gt940MX, in future can we upgrade it to the N850hj motherboard that has an i5 7300HQ and GTX 1050

First off, the question I'd ask is do you need to upgrade? If it's going to be the primary, and sole gaming/ production computer for your sister/ yourself, then maybe consider it. If there are any alternatives, don't bother, because it'd be a wasted modification/money better used elsewhere. Since its a new laptop, I wouldn't touch anything other than the most basic upgrades for the first year, though that's my own preference (for warranty, and stuff).

Now, moving on from my tirade- is it possible?

    Answer: Probably and probably not

Since this is a clevo laptop both models share pretty much identical chassis, so physically I think it would be feasible, but there is the big problem of compatibility- even if the chassis and motherboard mountings are identical, there could potentially be big issues in terms of ports/ connectors matching up (different configurations) as well as issues with different components preventing mounting (Battery, and also the cooling systems/ heat sinks etc)
Also, from my briefest of searches, it seems to be very difficult to find a motherboard replacement to these new Clevi laptops (though it was by no means an exhaustive search), so this might be cost prohibitive.

It'd also be a big hassle, or really fun activity, YMMV.

    Good luck, either way ;)

Yeah just thinking in future, maybe in around 2/3 years, yeah I have already seen 1 incompatibility and that is the VGA port is changed to 2x Mini DP since I suppose the GTX1050 doesn't have an analogue output. Yeah ill wait till the warranty runs out, and I think the cooling solution will be the same because the hot air does come out the same bit of the chassis, I will have to get someone to open up their N850HJ and ill see the differences, anyway thanks :)
