I know laptops are bad at this game, but I would really like to have a setting that creates less lag but still has most of the speed and beauty of BeamNG.Drive. My laptop is a brand new, 2013 HP, and my specs are: AMD A6-4455M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.10 GHz, 4.00 RAM Installed, 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor. please consider my request!!!Thanks!!! To the suggestions people for me turning everything on low: I have EVERYTHING on LOWEST, I took a suggestion, and will probably take all suggestions.
That isn't going to happen. Just turn the ingame settings down. If it still lags there isn't anything anyone can do. There isnt a magic switch that can be flicked to make it suddenly work on laptops, thats not possible
I feel your pain, my specs in the sig. But really, you can't run a real-time simulator on a $400 laptop. Also FPS wise Beamng is fairly well optimized and if you have your settings on lowest and you're using small cars on small maps, and you still get lag there's nothing the devs can do about that. There's no 'magic setting'. Most likely you are getting CPU-based lag with your AMD chip so the only solutions are 1. Buy a better computer 2. Give up soft-body physics and just get NFS. Sorry...
I would recommend messing around with the settings, if you have done this. Also i would recommend getting a desktop next time you have the opportunity again. I use a similar laptop when im on the go. The specs are: AMD E2-1800 APU with radeon HD graphics, 6.00GB of ram @ 676 MHz, 384MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7340 Graphics GPU. It lags a bit on lowest settings excluding textures and resolution (basicly saying textures and resolution are at highest if you dont understand what i mean)
Mine is pretty much on low settings, so I guess nothing can be done. Thanks anyways Mine is also not laggy if you have a single car, but 2 cars it lags a ton.
My 2012 ASUS laptop runs it perfectly fine on default settings (aside from the occasional lag spike or crash). Not sure of the specs, but I will check.
Mine is CPU and GPU bottlenecked as well as thermals .... CPU gets too hot => downclocks => game stutters. Its an Asus UX51 with Intel Core i7 3610QM and Nvidia 650M .... so it's not just your system that is slow, it's just in general laptops are limited due to their ... nature. Whereas a gaming PC can burn 300-500 Watts into frames per second a laptop usually only has around 30-100 Watts ... apart from gaming laptops with dual graphics and desktop-like CPUs.
Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good. Laptops were never intended for gaming, even "gaming laptops" (as above) sometimes have problems
There are laptop settings in the game allready.. They are called "Very Low", "Low", and sometimes "Medium" "Autodetect quality" even worked on my "12 Atom netbook No, seriously, you have to tweak your settings until you find a good balance between visuals and game performance AKA framerate. There's no other option so far. Laptops are generally weak.
All laptops are not made the same, I can run BeamNG well on my new laptop (on my old one, not very well), but the OP will have a hard time running with their specs. Like other people have said there is no "make it work better on laptops" code you can add, all you can do is more optimizing (which would help desktops too). Laptops are just a lot slower in general, you need a top of the line newer laptop to run BeamNG all that well.
you low medium comment sucks ! i play full settings on a laptop no lag and i can use 3 cars before lag
Put all your graphics settings to minimum and your texture settings on low, then take all your cars and strip certain parts off of them until you reach a desirable FPS and save the profile. It's more fun to pay the game at smoother FPS and the car deformation can still be experienced well.
have you tried a game booster, my brother uses one. it was unplayable for him now its acceptable. he uses razor gamebooster
razor gamebooster is just bloatware, all it does is close programs open in the background, which anyone can do easily, just open task manager, and close stuff that you know for a fact doesnt need to be open
I tried gamebooster once, performance gains varied between getting worse and only being marginally better. As logoster says, it mostly just shuts background tasks. Try it, see if it works, but I wouldn't really advise it.
Correction : I meant those sub 1000$/last gen/not so powerful/weaker (about 90% of all reasonably priced) laptops what have issues playing things at 40+ FPS excluding all the others what are obviously perfectly capable of running it on highest...For example : Do NOT lower the settings on any recent Alienware laptop. I also believe that who has a generally stronger laptop SHOULD NEVER lower the settings, especially if the laptop can produce smooth framerates anywhere over 24FPS, and should NEVER EVER listen to my tips regarding this issue (what they obviously don't have), and ignore my posts. Btw, ON TOPIC: (for anyone excluding people with capable laptops) "TuneUp Utilities" is a fine app for optimizing the pc for gaming. You can set a separate gaming profile, what can disable all unnecessary Windows services and background stuff for the time its being the selected profile, and when you return to normal, everything switches back to its normal state. There are quite a few options (like power management, services, effects, etc..) for the selected profiles. I managed to reduce my Windows7 x64 RAM memory footprint via the gaming profile to an unbelievable 529MB, gaining an additional gig of ram. Its a nice app. Worth checking out if you are on the older Core2Duo laptops what usually shipped with 2gigs of ddr2 RAM
